I think royal mail has become awful I no longer use them. With any luck they will continue to struggle and eventually go out of business.

Royal Mail should be doing more to assist its customers not be arrogant in their don't care attitude - no wonder they are losing customers to other carries

Totally agree this petition. Royal Mail have gone way to far with this. I recently posted a vintage sterling silver Zippo to Brazil, the lighter hadn't been used for over 20 years & contained no fuel or flint. it sold for nearly £300 & I posted using tracked & insured after the Post Office told me it was ok to do so. I posted on a Saturday, found out on Sunday Royal Mail destroy lighters & I tried getting the lighter back on the Monday but was told no, & I was told they couldn't track it even though I had a tracking number & that I would just have to wait. I have repeatedly tried to get it back & have said all along it contains no fuel or flint but they have chosen to destroy it anyway, despite it being perfectly harmless. & they made a point of saying my insurance is void. It had survived for over 70 years until they got their grubby hands on it. I'm currently still arguing with them over it & demanding it's return or they honour compensation. Their terms state 'no lighters containing flammable fluid'. If they want to be so strict on this then the rules should include the wording 'used lighters that have previously contained fluid'. It doesn't say that & my lighter didn't contain any flammable fluid so if they had no right to dispose of it. If they don't return or compensate then as far as I see that's theft & destruction of my property as I had actually posted according to their rules of 'containing no flammable fluid'. This needs to stop, & Royal Mail need to realise they can't just destroy peoples valuable property while hiding behind very poorly written rules. I will fight them every step of the way on this & have already got the Postal Review Panel involved. Postal Redress Service is next. It's a disgusting service & they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

A vented zippo with flint removed poses no risk to anyone. Destroying historic items like this without good reason is ridiculous. Apart from the financial side A lot of these zippos have sentimental value to people who may be sending them for refurb via the zippo repair program so an option to recover packages they deem unsuitable due to their rule changes for a fee

i am a collector and this is one of my favorite hobbies . i have been collecting lighters for the past 25 or 30 years long before 911. wich has led us to this current issue of mailing lighters, many thanks to zippo for their continued support.

i cannot see a problem if a lighter is vented of fuel and flint removed.. hardly dangerous goods i feel.

Please re-evaluate the real danger and change back the rules. It is such a pity that you (the postal system) gave us the world where we can easily connect and swap lighters now you are taking it back just when communication became easier thanks to the internet.
