As an avid lighter collector, this rule severely limits my ability to buy and sell lighters. Also, a vintage lighter that has been removed of flint and fuel is simply a chunk of silver at that point. It poses no danger to anyone and should not be barred from shipping.

A cigarette lighter empty of gas and with the flint removed is not a hazard. 350 passengers allowed to carry lighters full of gas, electronic ignition and/or flints is a hazzard... and they cannot even use these lighters to smoke. The rules are ridiculous.

The post office destroyed an antique lighter I posted to china with a loss of 147 pounds there was no fuel in the lighter

This law is unfair.Why target old lighters .Thats my user name on eBay.What if you have an old lighter that is mint in the original box?Does it still apply?Could I be sentenced to death for removing the orange sticker from a new zippo or (heaven forbid) putting an old insert in a new lighter or vice versa?

This is unbelievable. I had no idea this was going on. This has to be changed. Hopefully something will be able to be done to keep lighters from being destroyed.

im a collector of zippo lighters and find this very unfair
If a lighter has no fuel its not dangerous. Especially a petrol one as it doesn't hold any pressure.

The safeguards set out in this petition are perfectly reasonable and I urge the CAA and Royal Mail to amend their rules to reconsider.

Posted new zippo without the Flint 1st class recorded with Royal Mail . These bastards don't destroy anything they just keep them in my opinion .

I am a collector in Australia and this ruling will stop me collecting
If postage is carried out responsibly without fuel and flint, I believe it can work, this may need a declaration at each end with customs opening at receiving end

A knee-jerk blanket restriction to the transit of lighters is both draconian and unnecessary. A signed declaration at the time of posting to certify that the lighter is empty and free of fuel and flint is all that is needed. Anyone foolish enough to contravene this would deserve to have their lighter confiscated. Do not allow the threat of international terrorism to curtail legitimate activity any more than absolutely necessary, otherwise democracy will be all the weaker.

Lighter collectors trade frequently by post and this restriction limits their hobby unnecessarily when some simple measures can eliminate all risk, measures that serious collectors have always observed.

Vintage lighter collecting is a hobby enjoyed by many people around the world. They can be made completely safe by removing fuel flint. Please take them off the dangerous goods list.
