Cigarette lighter shipments from/to UK by Royal Mail

Furious! Just found out that RM have binned my late 1940s cigarette case and lighter which contained no gas, petrol, or flint! It's been empty for the best part of 30 years! Ridiculous.

I have an old gas lighter which has had no fuel or flint in it for 30+ years which I wanted to give to a friend I met in USA, but I am told I cannot post. Why not?

This is a rediculous rule,technally if it is empty without flint it is incapable of lighting so is not fit for purpose so is not a lighter

An empty ,flintless item shaped like a lighter is technicaly not a cigarette lighter because it is incapable of lighting cigarettes or even lighting up.It is not fit for purpose therefore is faulty and at best a model incomplete product. This rediculous rule has stopped my being able to follow my hobby trading with others to collect for pleasure.

Bloody ridiculous ruling and is affecting the lighter trade... Maybe that's the point

In most cases, an open lighter would show (if x-rayed) that it was empty of gas or fuel, the flint and spring could be packed separately, making it easy for them to see and allow.

And yet you can easily buy cheap throwaway lighters which are easily more dangerous and have them sent via post no problem. Seems ludicrous...Sent zippos back for repair no problem, just take insert out as required.

These lighters are valuable items and no way would they be shipped in a dangerous state

This draconian regulation makes the Zippo lifetime guarantee totally unusable, as you could very well lose a vintage, rare or valuable lighter being sent for repair.

This is not restricted to the Royal Mail but they are the service I used to use most.

Found this petition after the post office confiscated a lighter I brought. Limited Edition. never been used, New in box. Lucky that seller refunded money (Very good of him), but he lost out!
