My son cried when he heard the news...he will be losing a handful of very close friends. He already lost his dad last year and his nucleus of support is with his peers at P.E.T.E'S. It's completely unfair to rezone. Especially for any child(ren) who have attended P.E.T.E.'S since Kindergarten.

I feel the same way. My kids have just been removed from zone 51 Edgewater to have to go over a bridge to school now with extra travel time & away from all friends in area. Makes no sense loss of 2 hours a day on bus!!!

I agree as I was apart of the discouragement of rezoning last year and I agree it doesn't make sense to take some people that live so close and yet they have to go so far to take there kids to school.. It's not fair. I also had to make a choice to move and sell my house to have my kids stay at the same school it was a headache..

This is a devious method of closing English schools: deny them necessary funding, limit access to the point of elimination, then sit back and watch as the board is forced to make decisions detrimental to its population. We need more schools off island, not less!

PETES is overcrowded and basic services have suffered, many complaints on this site but no solutions. I myself can't accept being told my special needs child is getting less services by PETES staf because of overcrowding. Not an easy decision for LBPSB. For the parents with money to spend, status quo is great, they don't care about you lab takenn away, they have 2 cpu at home, they don't care about less gym time. They have their kids registered in hockey, skiing, skating ,swimming and soccer... That's not acceptable either. Where were all if these parents during actual consultation?

We live in Zone 57 and we want our kids to stay in the English school board because we want them to be bilingual.
Area 57 is ridiculously close to PETES. The fact that there is a physical boundary like the 40 does not justify sending us all the way over to Hudson.
Knowing that this is only a temporary decision only adds a huge load of anger. We are being imposed a temporary solution that has huge consequences and that in the end, does not even solve the core issue. This is completely unacceptable and the consequences for the families are really important.
As a result, it sounds as though many parents are planing to send their child to the French School board so they can stay within a reasonable distance from school or send them to private schools. Of all the parents that I spoke to, none were actually considering sending their child to Hudson and that is not surprising considering the sacrifices involved (imagine the parents who work in Montreal and who will have to add one extra hour of commute each day to pick up their kids from daycare in Hudson while they live only minutes away from PETES). The school board won’t actually balance out the schools, they will simply loose all those families to the French school board (and ultimately loose taxes) or to private schools !
To sum it up, we feel robed of the plan we had made for our children’s education and wellbeing and it is very painful for us to accept that such an arbitrary and senseless decision has just changed the course of our children’s education. We feel that changing the zoning of area 57 to Hudson is beyond senseless and needs to be revised.

We bought our house and made work decisions based on the fact that area 57 was zoned for PETES. We live only a few hundred meters from school. My child can ride his bike to school. I want him to stay in the English school board because I want him to be bilingual. I do not want to send him to private school because I believe in the quality of public education. I want my child and his younger sibling to attend PETES, the school that is in their neighbourhood, very close to where they live and no other school. That’s how we had planned where we would live when we decided to have our family and how we made decisions concerning our employment. Every single decision that we made concerning our home and work in the last few years were based on our profound wish to send our children to PETES.

We live right off the Chateau Vaudreuil overpass road! I can’t insist enough how ridiculously close we are to PETES. This year, we were excited to be able to ride our son's bike to school together. This precious privilege will also be taken away from our son if he has to go to Hudson.

Please note that the LBPSB cannot lobby the gov't (or the city of Vaudrueuil) for another school unless ALL our local schools are at 85% min capacity. Unfortunately, the largest growth is in concentrated areas - PETES being v hard hit. The OLD zoning map does not address today's reality as some areas continue to grow in population while others have reached peak. This is the situation with my area - Zone 57. - no more new construction. We are so close to PETES, but being sent instead to Mt. Pleasant because the highway separates us (I see NO OTHER reason why this happened). It is illogical. There ARE other options. But the LBPSB must RE-OPEN the case, RE-CONSIDER the zones and potentially shift some areas around.

Simon W.: Have you traveled down that lakeside road - Ch. de l'Anse? It's a winding road - with no shoulder, right on the lake. I take the highway if I go out to Hudson. Which brings me to another point: what parent will willingly want their child to take a bus down that treacherous road at 6:50 am in the dark and in winter conditions? I am not AT ALL OK with that as a solution. In fact, I would likely refuse on that fact alone. Trust me, we lived it when our first child was "temporarily" rezoned to do K at Mt. Pleasant. A TERRIBLE year. I held my breath every morning he got on that bus. We barely survived the stress it imposed on our family. I would NEVER, willingly, do that again.
