Science always wins. Put acceptance of this fact and in turn the well being of our children first.

Barrington 220 offers an indisputable top-notch curriculum supported by best-in-class teachers and administration. It's obvious that a lack of sleep will compromise a quality education while adequate sleep enhances it. As a community we should do everything we can to ensure our students have the BEST opportunities to most effectively absorb and benefit from what 220 provides them. A lack of sleep is an inexcusable hurdle for students to have to overcome when there are so many obvious alternative strategies available to us.

An ongoing problem that should no longer be dismissed.

I want school to start later because I can't wake up in the morning! And sleep is good for your brain.

I still find it amazing that something that is so common sense to every parent of a teenager on the planet (teens need more sleep than they get and their body clocks predispose them to staying up late and sleeping later!) has taken this much time and energy to fix in our schools. It is COMMON SENSE. No one, not even adults, should be doing higher math at 7:20 am without the benefit of two cups of coffee, or worse, other stimulants that teens routinely turn to. Just because we adults stumbled through our high school days half asleep back in the 70s and 80s doesn't mean it was right or that our kids should be doing it now!!! The research is CLEAR, and it is simply common sense. Come on 220, be a LEADER and let's get this done. Geez.

This is long overdue. Schools all over the country, including next door in Lake Zurich have already put this in place.

My daughter has chosen to keep 1st hour open this year, so she can sleep longer. Later start will all accomplish this!

I can hardly wake up in the morning, by the time I get to school I'm still half a sleep. I get home everyday and fall asleep because I don't get enough sleep at night due to homework and how early school starts. Please change this for us!!

I hope the Board of Education takes the time to read the data and information available relating to the physical and mental health benefits of starting later. The facts in this debate clearly support pushing back the BHS start time.

The overwhelming evidence for late starts of the high schoolers days makes signing this petition a "no brainer". Why would you not want the best for your children?

This change should be starting in the fall of 2016. It is long overdue.

As the grandmother of two BHS students, one a current junior and the other a freshman, I can see firsthand how difficult it is for them both to fulfill homework requirements and busy schedules while operating on so little sleep. Their physical and mental health is definitely affected. I'm certain that the 220 board will react to the overwhelming evidence on the effects of sleep deprivation and push for a solution beginning with the 2017/2018 school year. thanks--

My son is always tired. I think this would be beneficial.

I totally support the late start time for high school. We should put students' health in front of everything else.

I support this initiative. I also note that District 214 is trying to reduce homework as part of a more balanced schedule for its students. I further support such an endeavor for 220; we need to prepare our students for college by imparting time planning skills and good work habits but too much of the homework (starting in elementary schools) is "busy work" that unnecessarily cuts into time that could be better used for bona fide learning as well as the family, recreational and social activities that are important in raising happy, well-rounded and successful children .
