Ante tanta impunidad y violencia del régimen cubano es muy importante que las instituciones que respetan y defienden los derechos fundamentales se pronuncien, estos actos de solidaridad ponen un poco de freno a la violencia y pueden salvar vidas.

I'm a librarian and I totally support this petition. Artists and writers in Cuba continue to be marginalized, abused and imprisoned. As I write this, Cuban dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara is still in a hospital and no one not even his family can see him. One brief suggestion, make this petition in English and, also, ask the American Library Association to make a public statement in defense of the human rights in Cuba.

Go live in Cuba as a commoner, not as a tourist, to remove any doubts about the legitimacy of your intentions. It's easy to defend a system from your comfortable, capitalist life. The Cuban government already has taken care of petitioning to lift the embargo for 60 years (well... 30 years, because before the 90's the embargo was rarely mentioned when the USSR sustained the Cuban economy). Blaming the embargo for all Cubans' misfortunes only reminds of Cuban dependence on US. And you know, we had a Revolution to end dependence on US. That was the Revolution's promise...
