I believe the BYOL programme has helped some students in their academic efforts, and I am glad that it has been implemented.
Having said that I think our school has taken it a step too far. La Chat has a serious lack of spaces suitable for working, and the "no-tech zones" are just making it even harder for students to find a space to work.
Surely we should be embracing the new technology being brought in by students as a means to work, instead of limiting the area in which they can use it?
Also: it's a La Chat tradition that the mezzanine in the MMC is for years 12 and 13 only, so it was very disappointing to see that tradition ending this year.

I agree with most/all comments on here, and I would like to add that lunch is OUR FREE-time, which is when we can relax. If we relax by going on our phones, let us. We have 8-10 periods of class, how do you expect us to be focused that long without any breaks where we can do what we want? Phones don't prevent social interactions: some people watch movies together, look at funny youtube videos, have fun with the snapchat update- TOGETHER. Making laptops mandatory and then banning tech in various zones is ridiculous. We want to have a say in the decisions made in this school, we have a right to make our opinion clear and we have the right to be taken seriously. Our opinions weren't asked in this process at all. Please reconsider these rules: they will backfire.

This is an interesting international study which says that increased computer use in school does not lead to improved results and "Students who use computers very frequently at school get worse results"

I am disappointed with the recent decision making of this school. I have been in this school for a decade and they keep making inadequate and irrational decisions. The free tech zone makes no sense as well as the fact that we have to bring our own computers. Why are we paying 30,000 a year ? It seems that now CDL will give us better value for our money than this school, which disappointing for me to say.

This policy makes no sense! We can't work on our work properly and affectively anymore. If we want to use our technology, let us, you can't keep a part of our daily lives banned.

Its absurd that, especially IB students, cannot study freely in the cafe with their laptops or whatever they use. I recently got kicked out for doing my HOMEWORK. Also, I dont understand why La chat thinks they will pioneer in changing the rehabilitation of the world to technology. As a school that talks all about free speech and right of an opinion and what not, this is quite a dictator move. Also, just side note, when i was new at the school, i was quite shy and was scared of approaching or being approached by people and the only thing that calmed me down was that i could escape to my phone what ever it was at the time, during lunch. Now they dont even have that. I could talk about this all day, but its not like the school's is going to listen anyway...

Mr. Woods seeing as probably the only thing you respect is La Chats tests scores that come out of IB program. Have you ever thought about that maybe just maybe La Chat students scored highly on them because they had places to study, and resources to use to help their studying. Taking away these necessities that an IB student needs would i know be detrimental to the scores of all IB students. I hope you realize this before the results of the next few years come out and talk for themselves what the current students are telling you now. Please wake up see the problems you are creating in the school and not the fictional problems you may be solving with these changes on your campus.

This is crazy, for over 10 years the upper floor of the MMC has been for IB students only, and should stay like that. We have way more work than anyone else in the school, and deserve some quieter space to work.

Why make it obligatory to have a laptop at school then ban them? The school has taken away all privileges of being in years 12 and 13 (eg. MMC balcony, somewhere quiet to work, vital for IB students).
And to rub it in the dirt, banning electronics completely? Mr. Woods, do you know what is required of an IB student? Have you experienced it? Give us a break, the balcony, a decent common room and the right to use our electronics. That would be spiffing, thanks.
p.s the common room is basically hallway with 12 broken chairs and a bookcase in it. CMON BRUH?!
