As a very concerned student, I believe that these new regulations are absolutely outrageous. I can’t believe that the school would prohibit us from working in the hallways in the Alps building AND from allowing us to get crumbs in our keyboards. I miss that school spirit where we were all sitting in the hallways working. I don’t know where I’ll study now!! Increasing the amount of room available for everyone in the MMC to study is a terrible thing to have done. It’s as if the people that were sitting on the hallway floors and the people that like crumbs in their keyboards have a new area to work in. I think this is a really bad idea because more people in the MMC means more noise! I wish there were some sort of movement for the students to address the problems that they are concerned about, perhaps if there were such a movement we could address other minor issues after we solve this major issue. Minor issues such as people not respecting the rules in the MMC, like being quiet for instance, which would be a subtle fix as nobody seems to care about this at all. I personally think quiet would be a nice addition to the MMC environment.

These new rules are utterly absurd and hipocritical. The same year every student is required to bring a laptop, they are not allowed to use technology in many areas of the school? When I've brought up the matter with teachers they've said we can work in the mmc. As a year 9 student, this is fine, my homework workload is fairly light, but i cannot imagine the stress this would cause an IB student. To not be allowed to do homework in the cafeteria, and then taking away the one quiet spot where they can work is utterly ridiculous. And if there's any place in the school that needs a technology ban its the tables outside the mmc. I really could do without hearing a group of year 7 boys screaming in their high-pitched voices about Minecraft all the way from the cafeteria queue. So if any year 7-11's are reading this, please have the basic human decency to leave the mezzanine for the I.B. students who are relying on their free periods in the mmc to get all of their homework done without staying up till 3am. And if you the person who made these new rules, please take a looooong look at yourself in the mirror and try to figure out what in your life shaped you into such a twisted individual.

Younger grades: think: you will have nothing to look forward to.
The first time I tried to study in the mezzanine after the policy change, the lower grades were having an exciting treasure hunt. Not ideal for studying. After looking for elsewhere to go, I realised there is nowhere else to study where we will be undisturbed by the hoard of students flowing from one class to another in the 5 minute break. I would go to the art department, but there are classes, I would go to the common room, but it is so small it is almost not there...and there are no tables anyways, I would go to the caf but I surely can't anymore, seeing as it is a non-electronics zone. Correct?
I arrived at the school in first grade: looking forward to prank day, having a common room, having "our own floor" in the Mmc (which I later realised would be ideal for studying... ) All of this has been so distorted, that after 12-13 years of waiting, it no longer exists. Now what do we have to look forward to? We need incentives, we need privileges in IB- the work feels oppressive enough at times, we most certainly do not deserve the stress of wondering where we can effectively study at our own school.

Before teachers and administration can consider telecommunication advancements as "anti-social", please consider the prejudices held against technology and the younger generation. "The reason people use their phones as a crutch, however, is the same reason that their parents used books and newspapers. Social media is to our generation what bellbottom jeans, records and discos were to our parents and what poodle skirts, soda shops and sock hops were to our grandparents. Whoever thought I would be a good idea to allow all years to go to the top floor of the mmc, it is not. The top floor is in INVALUABLE place for IB students. They need a place to study without being distracted by younger years. The IB is already hard enough as it is without younger years bothering them....

Lol those 7th and 8th graders right outside the MMC is just messed up.
I think teachers will now have to supervise every corner of the school cuz there are some many kids playing at lunch. They should do WORK like Maths club.

I left La Chat at the right time (2015) if I was still at the school there is no way that I would even abide by those stupid rules. It's a private school where the students families pay to attend. The school should therefore not be able to dictate where they can and cannot use certain devices!

Students will be happier if things go back go how they were. Student satisfaction is key for a good ambiance in a school. The best thing would be to ask the students what they need and then compromise... Not just impose these ridiculous rules that won't make them happy and be reluctant to go to school and therefore not be happy to learn.
