We ask the Kuemper High School administration to support and maintain a National Honor Society chapter at Kuemper now and well into the future. Its national/global recognition and merit has immeasurable benefits for our students and graduates. The honor of chapter membership acknowledges excellence of character, leadership, attention to service and academics, and is of great value as members pursue athletic recruitment, application for financial scholarships, application for leadership opportunities on college campuses, consideration for career internships, application for post graduate programs and building resumes to enter into the job market.
While the creation of a proposed in-house honor society could offer intangible benefits for students within their experience at Kuemper, it would have little, if any benefit for the graduates beyond their time at Kuemper. Because of its lack of recognition outside of Kuemper, there would be no knowledge of the society's purpose or required qualifications for membership, and therefore be of no assistance when applying for scholarships, leadership opportunities, internships, post graduate programs and creating useful resumes for entry level employment.

NHS is a goal and recognition that all students should be encouraged to strive for. To help them become the best they can be...as a KHS graduate! Gary Schenkelberg. Class of 1970
I have 5 grandchildren in the Kuemper school system and would very much like to see NHS continue to be a goal for each to strive for. I'm a Kuemper grad., class of 70.
My son is currently working hard to keep his grades up so he can get into NHS. Dont take that motivation away from these kids.
We had 3 kids on nhs. We felt it was recognized as a great honor for college apps.
Being a part of NHS has helped me receive scholarships for college, and has even helped me get a job while in school. I would never want to see Kuemper stop the NHS program. I believe I can speak for many when I say that NHS has helped me in more things than I could have imagined when I was in high school, and I want the future students to have those same experiences.
I can think of no reason Kuemper should be considering this avenue.

I'm curious to understand the reasons why Kuemper would consider ending the participation with NHS.
