To Kirklees Council Head of Bereavement Services I have been made aware that the Council is considering proposals for increasing charges for Bereavement services provided to the residents of Kirklees. I would like to take this opportunity to record my objection to these suggested proposals and instruct the council and my elected members to oppose any increases that will place hardship on people who are already suffering under austerity measures and consider alternative solutions with full community engagement on this matter. Sincerely

Show some humanity and stop profiting from the deceased. You have the power and will be the foundation for generations to suffer.

27th November 2017 Dear Sir/Madam, *RE: Increase cost of Burial services* I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the recent proposed increases outlined by Kirklees Bereavement Services. As a member of public residing within Kirklees, I am quite frankly appalled and disgusted by this proposal which many have labelled as a Death Tax! Whilst is common knowledge the Country is going through tough austerity measures, it’s subsequently having a profound impact on society. The residents of the poorest communities are hardest hit and it’s discriminatory to any member of the community in Kirklees that wishes for their loved ones to be buried. For this very reason, I and majority of the friends and family believe this new pricing structure needs to be strongly re-evaluated. We understand that a nominal rise in prices which reflects inflation is normally proposed and implemented year on year. But these charges planned will be simply unaffordable by many families adding mental pressure and burden on bereaved families. These proposals have had little consideration for religious beliefs where funerals on evenings & weekends will be charged more, thus acting like a postcode lottery but for the dead. Many have even gone far as saying it’s a case of religious discrimination - this is the level of discontentment felt within the Kirklees community. The price increases will make Kirklees council more expensive in comparison to surrounding local authorities. We’ve already had to bear the brunt of the 10% increase in Council tax, and now this. I and many other residents feel Kirklees council are treating the deceased as customers and running it for a profit. Lastly I would like to conclude that Kirklees Council can save money in other areas but the Bereavement Services shouldn’t be one. So in light of the above information, I sincerely hope the matter is dealt with swiftly and having strongly taken in consideration the views of the local residen

Imagine the increase in cost due to corpses being stored in morgues. What would you have us do then. Throw the dead out on to the street?

The price increase is wrong on so many levels. Not everyone earns thousands a month. Shame on you. Have mercy upon the people.
