Young people are uncertain about their bodies, so why make it even bigger issue. There are certainly better ways to teach you to appreciate your own body and to respect the privacy of another person than a tight dress code that focuses only on the length of the shorts or bra straps. We are living in 21th century.

I have three girls. I know very well the challenges teenage girls go through, especially in middle school. I think more time should be spent on teaching these impressionable girls how to be patient, kind and respectful to fellow students, rather than humiliate girls in class about their attire. Let them feel good about themselves. They are trying so hard. Let them show confidence about their style and who they are. Again, they are trying so hard. And I recommend those making these dress code rules go shopping for a teen girl right now. See what is in the stores. If you are that concerned, enlist uniforms. They are actually a great way to even the playing field.

the dress code is completely unfair and sexist and needs to change. I’m more distracted in school of worrying if I’ll get dress coded on a hot day then what people are wearing. it makes students embarrassed and makes them want to hide their body which is not a message a school should send to students!

we shouldn’t have to worry about showing to much skin like shoulders or legs or stomach like of course there is a certain limit to a dress code something not too inappropriate but being dress coded just for wearing a skirt or rips to high on jeans or tank tops or tube tops like don’t tell us we can’t wear clothes when we used our own money to buy them and like to wear them and pulling kids out of school disrupting and taking a way learning time for education is more “distracting” then someone wearing something to violate the dress code. not our fault either if other people get “distracted” to what we’re wearing.

every school has a dress code, i don’t go to kirkland middle but i noticed it’s way too strict, girls get sent home, how is that fair?

don’t teach girls to not wearin something considered “inappropriate” becuase boys will look TEACH THE BOYS TO NOT LOOK IN THE FIRST PLACE. OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM IS SO MESSED UP!!!

The school dress code is really getting out of hand.

My daughter and two of her friends were horrified after school the day the new dress code was put in to place and unfairly enforced. None of the girls I’ve seen look distracting and if faculty men have an issue with what these middle school girls are wearing, they shouldn’t be working at a middle school. I have always felt supported by this school and had great communication in the past. I hope we can get to the bottom of what’s really going on and get back to learning in a safe environment.

On friday i was pulled out of my third period class to the principles office, and i was told i was to never wear the shorts i was wearing that day again. she asked me if my mom could bring me any clothes, i said no she’s at work. she asked me if i had gym shorts i could change into i said i don’t have gym the semester. then i asked why can’t i wear these shorts they’re sport shorts her response was. well your not in sports right now are you, then gave me a rude facial expression i felt extremely offended and very ashamed. then she told me to go back to class and so i turned around and walked out i saw more then a few girls sitting outside her office waiting to be called in to get told they couldn’t wear what they were wearing again. i went back to class and everyone started to crowd me asking me about what happened and what i said and everything and i told them. this just is insane to me the fact that i got taken out of class just to get told i couldn’t wear what i was wearing. then later that same day i had two other teachers come up to me one of them tugged on the back of my shirt and told me my shorts were to short, and the other one said the same thing but cut me off while i was walking. i just think this whole thing is outrageous, and i did not sign in agreement to this dress code at the beginning of the year.

Thank you for helping to change the ridiculous policy at KiMS. I too have been pulled aside and it’s humiliating.

Terrible and shame on the staff to walk in and publicly humiliate a girl and call her a distraction The idea that girls dress for sexual attention is repulsive and degrading

This policy plays into rape culture. It’s time to move forward in our views on women.
