We, the undersigned, applaud the Governor's pledge to increase funding for Vermont's Child Care Subsidy Program. We call on him to bring the program's income eligibility guidelines and payment rates to current (2009) levels, as recommended by the federal government. We believe that such an approach is in the best interest of Vermont's children, on whom Vermont's future prosperity depends. Providing child care assistance to low- and moderate-income families is also an important economic strategy, as it enables parents to work and employers to retain valuable employees.

Vermont needs to step up. Parents are struggling and this shouldn't be a luxury only the rich can afford.
