Parents have a right to be involved in their childeren's education. The values of the community should be honored in the school’s policies and in this particular case – the school library policies and procedures. This is a petition demanding that RRISD adopt a policy that requires the public elementary and middle school libraries in our school system create a separate section for books that contain explicit language and mature content. We also demand that parental consent should be required for their child's access to books from this section. All of these types of books containing explicit language and mature content must also be clearly labeled on the front cover or spine as, This Book Contains Material that May Be Unsuitable for Children - Parental Guidance is Strongly Suggested.
