We ask that you launch an investigation into the violations of Kevin Cooper's civil and constitutional rights.
Kevin Cooper is an innocent man on California’s death row.
Five 9th Circuit Judges found that the prosecution (1) presented false evidence at trial, (2) destroyed evidence before the jury could see it, (3) lost or withheld exonerating evidence from the defense.
In addition, these judges found that post-trial forensic testing showed evidence tampering by law enforcement. The judges warned that, “the State of California may be about to execute an innocent man.”
The trial was held in a climate of great racial hatred. An African American was being tried in the news media for the murder of a white family and houseguest.
Hate-filled racist graffiti was displayed around the courthouse during court proceedings. Jurors were allowed to stay on the jury who had been exposed to highly prejudicial press.

The momentum generated by this petition has prompted a formal inquiry from a national legal watchdog group. We are currently preparing a comprehensive dossier to present to the Department of Justice regarding the evidentiary failures cited in the Ninth Circuit ruling.

When the death penalty is involved , the benefit of the doubt should always be given!
There is to much evidence that he may be innocent !!! With this in mind at the least he deserves another trial ! It would be a tragedy to execute an innocent man !!
i grew up in san diego and remember this case. back then things were real bad with the media coverage. something is definitely wrong with how this went down.
this case has been a disgrace from the start. how can they just ignore findings from federal judges??? let the man have his day in court without the corruption.
STAY THE EXECUTION. TOO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE EVIDENCE. JUSTICE SHOULD NOT BE THIS MESSY.

i am still hopeful that woman/man are inherently good. at the very least, mr. cooper deserves a fair trial. don't hesitate to support a man's right.
