A Gift to the tech school (keeping gifted located at the Technology center)

I was a student in the Limestone County Gifted Program from my first grade year through graduating high school. Now, as the mother of three children who may someday benefit from the program, I would like to see it remain at the LCCTC. The opportunities afforded there outweigh the increase in instructional time. At LCCTC, gifted students not only join in activities such as the Robotics Team and Model UN, but they can also learn valuable information by partnering with students in the traditional technical classes for joint projects. Students work together with students from other schools towards a common goal, and sometimes must work through differences in learning based on how each is taught at their home school. This provides invaluable opportunities to broaden our students' horizons if the resources for such projects and activities is utilized correctly. Also, moving the program to each County school will further tax our strained school system. We would potentially have to hire more instructors, find a space at each school for the program, and purchase duplicate supply inventories for class projects. Even assuming no increase in instructor headcount, but instead having the current instructors drive to each school one day each week or every other week, there would be an increase in mileage and fuel costs. I believe the program would better benefit from a strengthening of the foundation rather than scattering the students to multiple locations across the county.

I have been going to the tech center for gifted since third grade,and it has been very informative and helpful to my education. Moving it to the school would just take away from the program,and in my opinion ruin it. Please keep it at the technical career center.

I swear gifted is the only thing motivating me to get good grades and if it's not at the tech school it's literally not worth it and I'd probably drop out

If you take the gifted programs away from the tech school you will be creating additional costs, and they would have to being in more kids who wouldn't have been in gifted in the first place to justify this radical plan. On top of this, programs like Underwater Robotics and Electric Car are going to die. The idea to take this away from tech school was obviously not very thought out. I am also in a non-profit philanthropic youth board of directors and we rely on the housing and assistance Ms. McConnell provides us with monthly to carry out our meetings and discuss grants (some of which can be thousands of dollars). We give out about $20,000.00 in grants to the county and have greatly enhanced the lives of the youth of Linestone County. What would we do then? Tech school has always been a place of meeting for us since our creation in 1999. In conclusion, when you take away Gifted from the tech school, you cause more problems than you fix.

I feel that telling these brilliant young minds (which are the future of our nation and possibly world leadership) that they rank last on the totem pole is just horrifying. They have worked rigorously and continue to do so each day. Why in the world take something so special away from the most driven, ambitious, moldable, pure and innocent? It is absolutely crushing. Especially since we are just finding this out now.

Why fix something that is not broken? These students need to be together learning from and challenging each other. They are exceptional and need to be with the extraordinary teachers that oversee them and are trained to bring out their unique talents and abilities. How will my child who is the only one in his grade from our school be challenged or my child who is one of three in his grade if they are isolated to their home school?

This is an outrage! We personally have two children who have been so greatly influenced by their experience at the tech school that one is going on to Calhoun for machining. Something he would have never known was out there for him without the tech school experience. Personally, I don't see how the individual schools will be able to keep this caliber of experience going for our children and it is the very LEAST we can do for our future to make this remain available to our children.

I think our school system should do more for the gifted students not less. Keeping it as it is makes for a stronger, more meaningful program. I see no legitimate reason for the change.

I'm in gifted and I've been fortunate enough to get into this program. If it is set away from the tech school it won't be incorporated enough for it to make any kind of difference. Colleges love this on a college resume and this class is bringing my ACT score up. I need this

I have two children in this program. They love it! Also my oldest has been in robotics for two years and has been planning next year's robotics events. She doesn't take any other tech classes and will not be able to participate her senior year if the gifted program is gone. Please reconsider and keep opportunities open for our kids.

It may be beneficial for elementary students to not go on the busses, but grades 9-12 will benefit meeting with peers from other schools. I never agreed with younger kids being on the bus with older students. Cooperative learning is a proven way in which we learn working with others. At some schools there are only a small group (1 or 2) in some cases. If anything, the students are supposed to be attending one day per week and are only meeting 2 times per month. The load of attending each individual school 2 times per month for one teacher is going to be near impossible. I appreciate other systems making their plan work, but many of the gifted teachers in those systems are assigned to individual schools. It is a belief that bringing all teachers from across the county to collaborate is a good practice. Why not do the same with these "special education" students who hopefully have been chosen for this program to be future leaders in our communities. Please consider leaving grades 9-12 in place at the Career Technical Center.
