We are opposed to the opening of an Academy in Ellesmere Port. Cheshire County Coucil is planning to close two comprehensive schools (Ellesmere Port Specialist School of Performing Arts and Cheshire Oaks High School) and replacing them with one enormous Academy. The lead sponsors (neither of whom have actually put any money into the school) will be the Church of England and Chester University. The Academy will be funded by central government and outside of the control of the Local Authority - an unaccountable private school funded by the tax payer. Please visit the Anti-Academies Alliance website or email: [email protected] for more information.

Updates

February 19, 2009

I am currently consolidating the correspondence received from local stakeholders to prepare a formal submission for the council hearing. We are focusing our research on the lack of financial investment from the lead sponsors to challenge their viability in upcoming meetings. Please review the documentation on the Anti-Academies Alliance website so you are ready for the next phase of our inquiry.

The volume of support has now reached a point where we have secured a formal meeting with representatives from the Local Authority. We are currently finalizing our documentation to present a clear case against the transition to academy status.

Enough with these academies. They dont care about Ellesmere Port they only care about their own stats.

My kids go to these schools and we are perfectly happy with the current system. Why mess with it?

UNACCOUNTABLE. Just another way to dump money into a private scheme while our local staff get ignored.

No to the academy. Keep the schools local and accountable to the community.

Absolutely ridiculous. Leave the schools alone! The council needs to stop fixing things that arent broken.

Keep our local schools how they are. We dont want some giant academy taking over and ruining what we already have for our kids.
