As someone who has known Austin since middle school, I was astonished to hear about his struggles during his first year at Berea. When I found out that he was returning to Berea with the intent of raising his GPA and succeeding I knew without a doubt that he would have no problem (at least not one created by himself) achieving this goal. Austin has put in the work, raising his GPA an entire point, missing the recommended GPA by a minuscule .2 points. If anyone deserves the opportunity to study and grow at Berea, it's Austin. Thank you.

As an alumna of Berea College I always try to embody their commitments when I teach my own classses. I respectfully ask that Berea consider the student in the fullness or who they are, not simply a gpa. Berea first introduced me to intersectionality and valuing lived experiences. May the institution continue to strive to be an example of valuing all people.

Austin is a good student and raising his GPA by over ONE WHOLE POINT doesn't sound like "no progress" to me. Give him a chance!

I truly believe Austin is the type of person that Berea looks for when they choose what types of students they wish to have on campus. Everyone makes mistakes, or gets hung up in college, but the improvement that he has shown should count for something. I know plenty of students that have the same GPA as him, and after appealing Berea's decision to kick them out, Berea let them stay for another semester to get above a 2.0. I don't see why Austin's case is any different and I believe we should practice what we preach in treating all people equally.

I know Austin very well and have had quite a few classes with him since he has came back to Berea. He has been working very hard and he should be given another chance!

Every student deserves a second chance. .2 perecnt gap of a GPA requirement is the perfect opportunity. He is an exemplary student and acquaintance and there shouod be a reconsideration.

Austin has made amazing improvments in his GPA, study habbits and work ethic.
He is the soul embodiment of what Berea stands up for every day. He continues to be everything the college represents while also being young at heart amd an excellent role model for potential future Bereans.
He does an amazing job in the participation of clubs and events sponsored by the college and creates informed conversations amongst the students on campus.
It would be a major loss to the college and all Berians is he was not allowed to continue at this institution.

Austin is my role model. Despite the problems he's facing and the mistakes he's made in the past, he's moving forward and helping others along the way. I've never seen someone so caring when the going gets tough. He deserves to be able to follow the path he wants to make for himself.

Austin has helped me study throughout the semester and has also become my study partner. He has studied significantly more than he had the past year he attended Berea, and he has most definitely become more responsible. He has become someone anyone can depend on.

Austin is an amazing person who deserves to stay at Berea College. It is not right nor fair of you, as an institution of high education, to deny someone their only opportunity at bettering themselves with a college education. Especially a student who loves Berea with all his heart. He has been making tremendous strides towards improving himself the past year. This college was founded on the ideals that every person should have a college education, so why deny this student that opportunity, especially when he is so close to meeting your standards?! From what I can tell, Austin is the embodiment of what Berea stands for and is what a Berea student should be: someone who helps others despite the risk it can have on themselves, someone who is determined and is willing to stand for what they believe in (I mean, who else would start a petition?), someone who welcomes all walks of life, sees their differences yet looks beyond that to see the potential in them.
