His GPA was bad the first year because his dad was dying/ passed away. He took the suspension with no arguments because things were already bad enough and when he came back went above and beyond trying to repair the damage done. He had near perfect grades but because his previous GPA (Once again, his dad was dying/ passed away) drug his overall GPA back down and even with the near perfect grades barely missed the 2.0 he needed. I personally think that with a ll that in mind he should stay.

What's the point in petitioning? If you make the decisions that cause your GPA to fail, then why not be accountable. The school gives you a chance that they don't have to give you in the first place, you don't perform to their standard. Nowhere in the law of the universe does it state you are entitled to a school, just because you make an attempt after you put yourself in a situation you could avoid in the first place. I don't like commenting on things via the Internet, because it's a useless way of conveying your opinion. But this petition is just ridiculous. Reply, be angry all you want.

I understand what it is like to try to work hard for your goals and dreams, with failures and flaws dotting your path. Knowing that Austin has dreamed of going to Berea and has been aspiring to do more than what is for himself is what I thought made students stand out from the crowd when being considered for Berea, however, seeing that they now are trying to kick him out for a few points away from his GPA makes me reconsider Berea's goals. I would understand if Austin was a college student that never showed up to his classes, and frankly, didn't care to be at Berea. Yet from what I am seeing this is not the case. This young man is dedicating his time to be the best student he can with what resources he has available. If Austin can put his faith and effort in Berea, then perhaps the college should try to do likewise. I wish you the very best of luck Austin!

Austin has made measurable progress in improving his GPA. His efforts to petition the college to allow him to stay shows determination in improving even further. As a fellow Berea College student, I believe that Austin should be allowed to remain enrolled.

I admire your passion. I pray that they let you back in. Your desire to stay should be proof enough of how much you have grown. They should not judge you on your past mistake because you those mistakes do not define you. We stand with you Austin

"God has made of one blood all peoples of the earth." We preach equality, and are known to stand up for one another. We are taught how to see injustice, and then we act. This should not be any different, Austin is trying and producing results, thus following Berea's guidelines. Good luck, Austin!
