I strongly disagree with the proposed move to the NEPSAC conference! Save sports for the local kids who will be shut out of opportunities! I am terribly disappointed with WA.

There have only been a handful of letters sent to BOT. These letters will make a large impact!!!! Please send your letters to [email protected] BEFORE April 12 when BOT will vote on the future of WA athletic programs.

As the parent of 3 WA graduates, and as a 19-year member of the WA Board of Trustees, I care very much about WA. I feel WA's strongest commitment should be to its local students, and to the taxpayers of sending Towns. Staying in the CIAC is best for these constituents. I hope that some accommodations can be made to benefit international and other out-of-region students, too.

We encourage our children to play sports for a variety of reasons. Playing sports can positively impact the development of an adolescents sense of self and personal confidence, help promote friendships, improve academics, and certainly expose them to better life style choices now and for the future. I truly feel that WA provides the last opportunity for many of our children to continue to play a chosen sport, or even try something new they may come to love. Not all of these athletes will go on to play in college, but they will arguably be better balanced students and healthier, more active adults for participating at the high school level. Keep WA in the CIAC.

I don’t see how the proposed move would help any of our students or athletes. The claim that this would improve the football program’s success seems incredibly unlikely given the division we would enter, and does not, to me, justify the disruption this would create for students, as well as the community perception of the school.

From everything I have heard from current students and concerned parents is that the Academy is quickly becoming a private school, at least in mindset. As an alum myself, I know that this would be disasterous. This move is just another step in that direction. It must be stopped. I hope the BOT is listening.

The athletes who really want college exposure play on club and travel teams on their off-seasons. They play all over New England and all over the US. That’s what we’ve been doing for the last 6 years between both girls. The tournaments are full of recruiters from all colleges. If you looked behind the players bench at the CIAC State Tournament those bleachers were full of college recruits. You are lucky to have just 1 kid on each High School team who want the commitment of college play. Even Division III the commitment is huge and all lasts all year. And my last 2 cents if you really think about it Most coaches are busy with their own teams during their sport season and have very limited time to recruit during high school games. Anyone who is really driven knows the process and in some cases would choose the prep school. Not to be forced into it.

It is not about being "seen" and pursuing sports in college or beyond, most kids that play sports in high school finish playing sports at that level so they can study in college and be productive men and woman. This is a selfish act on the part of WA to take away that last bit of youth from the kids, that we as adults all wish we could get back. High school is the experience most of us would like go back to. Please do not "sour" the memories of these WA kids. It's a shame that "money "talks". WA, you are selling your soul to the Devil!!
