The day that motorway was shut by accidents causing gridlock to every other route into or out of Weston 2 weeks ago in Oct 24 proves that Weston is solely dependent on both J 21 and J22 of the motorway to actually function and if anything prevents that - the only alternative is to use country roads that are single track including Banwell. There are no other 2 carriageway main roads out of Weston until the Banwell bypass is built. Many reported journeys of over 4 hours that normally take 40 mins. And this is becoming the norm on any day of the week not just Friday. There are not enough jobs in Weston to support the number of houses being built so in order to work in a job that pays enough to afford to live - most people are forced to commute to Bristol Avonmouth Taunton and Cardiff or even further afield.. those people are reliant on their cars and it is too late to change this. House prices in Bristol are meaning more and more people are moving out to Weston and public transportation is never going to get people to all the places they work at the time they need to be there - so they use their cars. Accept this and build the infrastructure and safe roads required to support the houses being built - and yes invest in public transportation but it’s never going to be the answer for all. So further restricting the available roads to a large town and all the housing being build on the outskirts is ludicrous.

I use this route regularly and would effect my work if closed.

Following the recent closure of Wolvershill Road, the traffic jams on Banwell have been ridiculous. Every time there is a problem on the motorway, our roads are blocked with traffic. There was a traffic jam for 7 hours outside our house last week. Closing Wolvershill Road has just increased our problems. In additional the distance to Morrisons is now 6 miles instead of 3. Often the bypass from the Flowerdown roundabout to the Locking Castle roundabout is very heavy or at a standstill at work times. I am therefore signing this petition.

Been a regular route for me and family for over 50 years. Leave it alone. When the M5 jams, which is does regularly in the summer, it gives us a diversion route to avoid the jams in Weston. Keep it open and add another M5 junction. You can’t keep building houses, no employment and wonder why the only route out is constantly jammed. It’s not rocket science

Going to cause absolute bedlam for residents in banwell and locking area. Not a good idea to close at all.

Another stupid idea to satisfy bus lanes It’s about time North Somerset realised the roads around Wsm can cope with the growth in new houses.

This will cause more congestion on an already congested route. Instead of reducing car usage it’s increasing it. I feel sorry for people the other side of the bridge that will have to Do a massive detour. The link roads are not in place so no viable alternative. You are causing massive misery - and increased costs and time to so many.

This road closing will affect local businesses and with the opening of the bypass pressure I’ll naturally be taken from this road. So there is no need to close it. (We use it often to access our child’s sporting team in Winscombe)
