KEEP Westerly Green... this is an opportunist looking to cash in on a housing opportunity - and there is no doubt in my mind that this was the current owners "end game" when he bought the property a few years back.

How about the land trust picking up this property?

Westerly is getting to be too busy especially in the summer. In 2004, I moved to Westerly from Long Island to get away from the crowds and it'll only get worse with building affordable housing and hotels!! It would decimate the shoreline and all of Westerly!!

Keep Westerly Green. The thing that attracts people to the area is the beautiful, spacious, open areas where they can enjoy the beauty of nature, otherwise it would just be another over developed area.

Winnapaug Golf Course has been a terrific asset to the community. Developing the land would be a detriment. What a shame this is even being considered.

The land on which the golf course sits was sold on the condition it would be a golf course, open and green, not a bunch of cheap condos. Residents do not want to see this stretch of Shore Road ruined to benefit one businessman who has let his golf course fall into total disrepair anyway.

This is a all about the all mighty dollar for those wanting to ruin this property. One person gains from this!!! Not the Town of Westerly!!!

They say they need to do this to make money to improve the golf course. Why not use the money for the proposed buildings to improve the golf course? It is the worst course around. Would their “resort” be any better?

I have watched this beautiful course slowly be dismantled by the owner since early 2019. I heard that the alterations were to help improve the course, but I was suspicious from the beginning that it was geared more toward development than course improvement. Many, many trees have been downed, growth along the edges of fairways has been pushed back and critical aspects that made this a true Don Ross designed course have been eradicated, such as the elimination of the dogleg on the 14th and the removal of a tree next to the green on the 15th. That tree helped make that par 3 hole much more of a challenge. Instead of putting all that money into destroying the course, it should have been used to improve it. Please do not let this become worse by allowing workforce housing, hotel suites, etc. to further deface this once renowned course.

Town of Westerly should consider purchasing Winnapaug similar to Schennecossett in Groton, CT and many other municipal courses that provide revenue for taxpayers and will keep Westerly GREEN.
