They actually did it and sold the software to Magix so I am honestly in shock right now. It feels so surreal that we kept pushing and they finally listened to us about keeping this thing alive even though I still have no idea what the support will look like …
Vegas is incredible editing software that is in danger of going extinct. We are asking Sony to Keep Vegas Alive! Either sell Vegas to a third party developer or show signs that Vegas is still breathing.
UPDATE 5/30/16
Sony has sold Vegas to a third party. Details below. The press release says Vegas 14 will be released Fall 2016. Now we wait :)
I really spent all morning refreshing the news feeds just waiting to see if Magix drops any actual screenshots or if they are just going to keep us guessing forever. It is honestly so weird seeing the software in new hands after all that time worrying it would just vanish into the digital void like some bad memory of an old interface.

Nooooo... Please don't abandon Vegas or all of us who have been supporters and fans for so many years. . I've produced over 100 PBS television shows using nothing but Vegas. It's fabulous and I certainly don't want to take all the effort it takes to learn yet another program. Keep Vegas alive please.

I have 36 licenses for Vegas at my college. Love it, and renew every 2-3 years. Many of my students buy their own copy. I don't see any other software for teaching that is as good as Vegas.

Vegas Pro has a workflow that is very flexible and intuitive for me. It deserves at least another upgrade to fix GPU and 4k compatibility. Sony don't throw away such a useful video editing and compositing tool.

The Vegas Pro user base is NOT moving to the Sony Catalyst Production Suite, instead we're switching to the Adobe CC Production Suite because it really feels like Sony has given up on us.
I still use Vegas Pro, but at some point I will be a full time Adobe user.
Thanks Sony.

In my opinion, Sony Vegas Pro is the most intuitive and easy to use NLE available. And its unique and powerful scripting interface allows the user to extend it with all manner of custom plugins not available in other NLEs. This software deserves a future. Please continue to develop and support it.

i've been a vegas user since v1.1.
i'd like to see some indication from sony that they know i'm alive and have spent thousands of dollars and hours with vegas.
silence is not an appropriate response. man up. kill it if you must, or revive it, but have the decency and professionalism to let the user community know what is going on.

Sony vegas is a real artist tool. It allows me to do everything inside of it. And it's just way too easy to use, than is competitors.

I cut a feature film on Sony Vegas, found it a joy to work with - having been a previous user of FCP and Premiere. A fantastic tool.
