Please do not downsize this space! Students who will be the ones paying the price & these kids work hard and shouldn't be penalized for poor planning on part of adults. You find the money for all types of useless things... you can find the money and space to support the robotics team!!

As an ACPS volunteer, Titan Robotics mentor, and former Titan Robotics member, I am concerned both for the future of the team and for the safety of its students. Titan Robotics uses advanced machinery including a CNC router, chop saw, and drill presses to create competitive robots, allowing them to continue honoring their mission of making STEM education accessible in Alexandria. If they are moved to a classroom, the team will not be able to safely operate this machinery and they may be forced to stop competing, stop offering summer camps, stop constructing community-improving structures like Little Free Libraries, stop supporting its child teams in Alexandria's elementary and middle schools, and ultimately destroy a STEM education pipeline that has been growing for the last 12 years. The move to a classroom also forces the team to reserve gym space more often to test their 3x3 ft, 100+ lb robots, putting a strain on ACHS's sports administration as they juggle existing scheduling conflicts. It will create logistical conflicts when the team goes to competitions multiple times a year, as they will be unable to safely and quickly load their trailer with hundreds of pounds of equipment without some type of loading door. It will make their outreach less effective, as non-technical leaders in the team will need to hold meetings among the noise that power tools may cause. It may ultimately cause the team to move to a local makerspace, adding expenses that may force them to charge students dues, going against their fundamental "no cuts, no fees, no experience required" value that keeps the team accessible to students of all backgrounds. Abandoning all of these considerations, it is clear that ACPS leadership does not care about an institution that has been growing within its walls for over a decade, does not know the impact Titan Robotics has on the community, and is comfortable putting students at risk. The titan robotics team is among the schools best programs. It is among the most decorated school clubs regarding competitions, it breaks down systemic barriers to career paths in stem, and it serves as a safe place for students to congregate and connect. Forcing the robotics team to use a room that is that much smaller is unwise. The room you propose we use will be barely big enough to reasonably fit all the members in. That is without factoring in the robots and the components and tools necessary to build them. The decrease in space is likely to lead to injuries. Although the titan robotics team is extremely careful when it comes to the use of power tools, and works diligently to ensure that the students are working in a safe environment, they can not reasonably ensure every kids safety if the kids are so tightly packed together. To the administrators, I implore you to let the robotics team stay in their current room. I’m not exaggerating at all when I’m discussing the risk this decision may impose on the robotics team. A robotics team can’t reasonably function safely with the space suggested. Please do consider the safety of your robotics team.
