My son was an active member of the Titan robotics team for his entire high school career. The shared space on the King Street campus worked well and was necessary for holding robotics meetings, as well as building and testing their robots. The Titans robotics team is a huge asset to the school community, and includes a membership of close to 50 students who not only develop their technical skills, but also their leadership skills. Titan robotics also coordinates and supports Middle and elementary school robotics teams across Alexandria and has won the prestigious FIRST Impact award several times over the last decade. ACPS dedicates, substantial resources to sports and other clubs. I ask that you continue to Titan Robotics by making sure they have the space they need.

You would never ask a sports team to practice in an unsafe space - why do you not care about your academic teams? The poor planning of Alexandria City schools is punishing kids

Titan Robotics is a core part of many ACHS' students and alumni's identity and has provided the opportunity for hundreds of students to gain early access to leadership through hands on STEAM literacy forming bonds for years beyond graduation. Taking away necessary shop space puts more strain on student and mentor leadership to spend more time worrying about safety and organization instead of the core focus of FIRST robotics.

I graduated from ACHS in 2022 and just graduated college last month. Titan Robotics has been the most influential learning experience of my past 8 years, and I can’t communicate enough how key this organization has been to my personal growth and professional success. I was one of the students who helped clean out the gym closet in 2019 (?) so the bikes could be relocated from behind the fencing, so I am well aware of TR’s continuously evolving relationship with the school regarding space. It is impossible to run such a team from exclusively a classroom, and acting like such a thing is reasonable is ridiculous. I am disheartened that ACPS administration would choose to turn their backs on an organization that has been running out of this space for such a long time, instead of integrating the team better with ACPS’ evolving priorities.

This greatly infuriates me, to think that the school would suggest something that clearly hasn't been thought out enough. Surely there are better ways to go about handling the clubs altogether, for the risk of fire hazards, and other dangers inside the buildings, is simply not a fair trade off, especially because you decided that they couldn't have enough space to properly function the machines and equipment.
The liabilities are so evident, someone who isn't even a part of the club, has to manually and blatantly break down everything completely flawed with this change. Regardless of the reason, though I can understand why you may want to go through with this, you are setting yourself up for problems that won't even just damage the building physically, but also the trust between parents & the school's handling of situations that put their children in danger.
This as a whole makes me question whether other clubs, such as the ones I was formerly associated with may be neglected into the future as well? This question shouldn't even be a possibility since the whole point of a school to have extracurricular, is to have a safe place to support the hobbies of the students attending, not completely throw that intention out because of some space.
Altering something like a requirement can be done, but when it comes to risks such as the ones proposed, it simply cannot be discussed without second thought.
And finally what about those with a gift for the material provided in these after school activities, what about their event preparation, or the condition quality, how much do you suspect it'll downgrade if problems like this are the main emphasis on why it is a problem for the club?
Keep the space they occupy, it would be a total shame to see all of this well crafted and unique skills & individuals to be subjected to something subpar.

It is abhorrent that the school is squeezing out a sport team that consistently produces world championship level kiddos. How irresponsible to push these gifted kids out.
