What about the Opportunity Cost of closing this Info Shop for knowledge dissemination and sharing experiences and good practices for development?
Other assiduous visitors of the Info Shop are our clients when they come to DC during the annual meetings or for negotiations. I often see them leaving the bookstore with many titles that they could not find at home
..... And no, computer ownership and internet bandwidth needed to find knowledge on line are not yet available/affordable to the average people in many of our developing countries.....
Keeping the Info Shop open matters because it is part of been
a "Knowledge" Bank!

Unbelievable how management think of money all the time instead of PRIDE AND JOY OF THE INSTITUTION. What example are they trying to show to the world? MONEY, MONEY, THAT IS WHAT IS KILLING THE WORLD ANYHOW, no community, not people, just money, shame

The bookstore is the Bank's window to the outside world. To shut it down would be akin to isolating the Bank from outside interaction.

The World Bank bookstore is the Bank's "business card" to the US public and general visitors from around the world... I have found it tremendously useful in engaging counterparts - visiting government missions and stakeholders go there to find out what's going on and what's new. It would be a huge mistake to close it - if we were To close it we would have to reopen it thereafter! Yes, once can get books through the Internet - but many of our visiting guests can't or don't, and in fact IEG runs the numbers regularly - many of the people we need to reach and they do read and they read on PAPRER. The engagement with the general public I. The US, in particular young people, without barriers, an entry pass and a s cu try guard - but wig a smile and the offer of information is what stands the Bank well. I cannot imagine what could be a better expenditure for the Banks communications network....

My daughter works for the World Bank and told me how much she likes the store. It would be a shame to see it close!

Keep the Bookstore open! THis is the only public space at a the World Bank and it brings debate on development issues. By closing the bookstore, is the World Bank trying to eliminate any debate and opposition to the Presisent 's views?

Please don't close the WB Bookstore. Its content is so well curated - from novels, to relevant technical information, all completely relevant to our work, and just not available in one place anywhere else.

This is a typical case of penny wise, pound foolish and would be a very regrettable step. Many of our foreign visitors go home laden with publications they would have a hard time to obtain in their home countries? The person(s) behind this should try ordering from Amazon for delivery to Ouagadougou (for ex.) and see if its possible (local credit cards often not accepted, even if the buyer has one) and see what that costs on top of the book!

The Infoshop Bookstore provides important resources for developing countries in addition to the integrated technical and financial assistance the World Bank provides to them. Closing it would also deprive the international development community of invaluable tools not readily available elsewhere in their efforts to raise the incomes and living standards of poor communities. I do so hope that the World Bank's management will take these factors into account in considering the future of the Infoshop Bookstore.
I was devastated when I heard about the Infoshop closing. I have been frequenting the Infoshop since I was a grad student ! what an amazing place and such a marvelous resource for all of us - bank, non-Bank, clients, and D.C. Please, please DO NOT shut it down !!!
