Not everything in life has to do with "opportunity costs".
There is a human side of a library that no app (no matter how high-tech) will ever be able to replace.
Also, the World Bank group will be setting the pace for closing libraries around the world. It is very contradictory when we think of the World Bank as an entity that promotes culture around the world, And a library is very much a key part of culture...

The Infoshop is a great place to pick up reports produced by the Bank to take on mission and gift to clients - adding credibility to the advice we are providing in person. It's also a fantastic place to pick up personal interest reading including stories from around the world and 'freakonomics' type readings relating to our work at the Bank.

This is a short-sighted decision. The InfoShop is not only profitable, but the only public space where visitors are free to walk in and explore the knowledge and research the Bank offers. Authors also rely on it to present their latest works and engage with the public. Closing the InfoShop will make the Bank even less accessible as an institution and sealed off from the community it has served well for so many years.

In addition to periodic browsing visits, I also bring clients to the InfoShop to illustrate the WBG’s breadth and depth of knowledge and examples of materials that can be shared with their organizations and their stakeholders.

Giving a book launch at the infoshop is a great way to attract talented authors to the Bank. If closed, it will be harder to draw academics to give talks. Angela Duckworth, Josh Greene, Brian Wansink, and Sam Moyn are just some of the authors I have brought to the Bank to both give a research seminar and give a book talk. Please keep it open!
