The World Bank Bookshop is an institution vital to the Washington DC community that informs economic and international policy debate. It is also an oasis for those of us who have worked for many years in the Federal City where we can count on seeing a wide range of literature not displayed anywhere else. We ask the World Bank to continue the Bookshop---it's your public face to an important constituency.

Thanks to the organizers of this petition. I was shocked to find out today (end of July) that plans are afoot to close the bookstore in a few months - was there a cunning plan to keep it secret. Well the cat's truly out of the bag - I hope the majority of WB staff sign this petition.

The Infoshop is an incredible resource! What I love most about it is that it provides access to alternative authors and works that would otherwise be unavailable in mainstream bookstores.

Closing the infoshop is a major mistake. The World Bank book store has the best selection of development literature anywhere, and at no cost to the Bank. The shop should be expanded to make it more accessible to tourists and students, teach about development issues and promote the World Bank's mission.

This is a Washington gem that can transport you from revolutions around the world to their varied cuisines, from key world events, to their economies, to he very important issues plaguing our world today. It would a shame to loose this landmark!

Are our leaders serious? This is just a joke, I'm pretty sure. The Info Shop is indeed a landmark, a face of our International Institution presented to the regular citizen of this city and to visitors alike. After all, the managerial “opportunity cost” reform in many cadres has been - and continuous being - a resounding failure. Our dear Jim Kim's and close advisors and managerial peers' decisions have proved erroneous - at the minimum. Now, the US$400 million Savings - as 'opportunity costs' are "explained" in a different way from which they originally appeared. Oops! Are indeed all the Member Country Representatives aware and supporting this new move? Are they aware that The World Bank Group Operations, including building operations, are practically covered by the Bank participating in all the Stock Exchanges over the world 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Are our dear high level management - and perhaps some surrogates - presenting the picture that leaving alone Info Shop represents missing "opportunity cost"? Please, let's invite Jim and other top managers to think over this - one more - brilliant idea of theirs.
