I love the bookstore. Where else can you get the latest books on poverty, development and economics laid out before you that you can browse through in 20 minutes and select your purchase? I have bought many a present there for people truly interested in the economics of underdevelopment or books on Africa rising or China in Africa, etc. the novels also..no where could I buy amazing novels set in India or Pakistan. Think of all the spring meeting patrons..now where would they go? If we really are a Global Bank, please keep the bookstore.

In my 30 years working at the Bank and since the InfoShop established, I used it endless times, and so did our clients (many were the World Bank Institute's knowledge events participants). The InfoShop not only provides all the major policy and research documents/publications, but also many other interesting books related to development. The InfoShop is a symbol of the "Knowledge Bank" which the WB is proud of being. It has also provided its staff with many well-selected books for reading during travel. I wish it will continue in some scale!

I think, what needs to be done is to change the management and the way it has been handled. Books are too important to just dismiss this place like this. thank you

What a ridiculous idea. It represents one of the few public venues for contact and outreach to "outsiders." It's also used by "insiders."

This is an awesome bookstore that allows us to keep in touch with the latest in our profession and alerts us to what is new thinking. It also allows the circulation of important Bank thinking to a larger audience. It will be a sad day if it is closed.

We all agree we are a knowledge producing institution. This bookstore presents our knowledge to the world in a real way. Closing this bookstore would be analogous to a major university closing their bookstore, which would be unthinkable for them. Further, the bookstore also serves as a concrete link to the Washington DC community and the development community when they come to visit us.

If the bookstore does indeed recover its costs, it's not doing badly. In considering the opportunity cost of the space, I think it important not to discount the important public relations role it plays as a public bookstore on Bank and international issues.

The Infoshop is a wonderful resource, and I know many non-bank Washingtonians from different walks of life also really value it for purchasing books and for attending book launches. Please don't shut it down! It is a DC institution.
