How can we ever hope to keep racism out of our lives without acknowledging and learning from our history? Tearing down statues is just ignorance.

I hope this strife brings greater awareness of our history. Frederick Douglass dedicated this statue and his speech is so important to read, especially now. Let's come together.

Truly an American Hero, his history is important! The statue represents so much more than I ever realized. I checked in WikiTree, his profile is just skeletal there ;-( but ended up here, to read about him, watch the video and such.

This was put here by freed slaves and we do not have the right to remove something when we do not know the mind of the freed slave.

It is disheartening to hear of people requesting the removal of this statue without considering its historical value. A group of former slaves paid for this statue. The family of Mr. Alexander are proud of their ancestor who is portrayed in the statue. It would be more helpful and benefit the general good to demonstrate actions that have researched the story behind individual statues and transfer them to more appropriate locations, if needed, that will serve to educate future generations.

Learn the complete history. You can't pick and choose parts of the truth to suit your agenda. That makes it a lie.

Please do NOT remove this statue! The removal of statues that represent the history of US, in my opinion, is a crime! People are jumping on the band wagon to destroy them, and for the most part, I don't think they have a clue of what these people did! Please take a stand for our country to leave these statues in place.

The views of descendants of Archer Alexander, including my good friend Keith Winstead, need to be respected. The statue needs to stay where it is.
