Keep the Ruby Mountains as undeveloped as possible!

As a Skier, I find this extremely selfish and inconsiderate to the environment and those who live in the surrounding area (humans, plants, and animals included) to build a private ski area in this location. The Ski community in general needs to continuously move towards recreation that allows for less of a carbon footprint. This goes against that entirely, all the while putting scars on the landscape for the sake of a handful of people. I strongly oppose moving forward with this endeavor. I feel that if the owner cares for the area and loves these mountains, they should invest in a pair of backcountry skis and earn their turns.

I photograph the Rubies almost on a daily basis. I also fish in Lamoille Canyon. To place a ski -run in this area will damage the wonder that God has created and create more problems with overcrowding, roads. and people who do not share the same interests that the people of Elko County do. I urge you to change your opinion on this issue.

The Ruby mountains are one of the last natural beauties of our lands that we can help protect. My family is from Spring Creek and Lamoille. The Rubies have meaning beyond just the face value. It is a land that shouldn’t be used for monetary or personal gain. It provides to the many in so many ways that I still think about from childhood and that so many more live with and for today.

I write to express my concern regarding the proposed construction of a private ski lift on public lands. Granting exclusive use of these lands to an out-of-state investor risks long-term harm to the local community. In particular, I am concerned about the potential impacts on ranching operations and the surrounding wildlife. Additionally, because the project would be privately operated, there is a significant risk that the land may not be adequately maintained, potentially diminishing the natural beauty of the Ruby Mountain Range for years to come. While I recognize that the planning commission has imposed conditions on the permit, I believe these measures are insufficient to mitigate the project’s adverse effects. For example, the provision allowing the lift infrastructure to remain so long as it operates once every five years creates a loophole that could allow the structures to persist indefinitely with minimal use. This would leave a lasting visual and environmental impact on the landscape for the benefit of only a select few. Moreover, this condition does not meaningfully address the environmental consequences of the project or ensure proper removal and restoration if the operation ceases. For these reasons, I respectfully urge careful reconsideration of the proposal.

The Ruby Mountains deserve tranquility and serenity. Bringing in the wealthy with this ski resort will result in Nevada losing one of its more pristine areas. Please don’t allow this! For the people and the wildlife of Elko. They all deserve better than becoming the next Vail or Jackson Hole.

The Ruby Mountains are no one’s personal playground. They’re public land and more than that they are one of Nevada’s most beautiful environmental areas, and it would be a crime against nature to let him build a private ski resort on that very land

I am a resident of Elko county, NV and a member of the Temoak tribe of Western Shoshone as well as a family member of a generational ranching family. I grew up knowing livelihood depends on a healthy relationship with the land you live upon. Environmental/ Civic studies must be done in full transparency.

Our view is the main reason why we have stayed in Spring Creek and Nevada. The main concern at this point is water. There is not enough water this year. If this ski resort goes up, he will have to have a snow machine. The snow machine will pull water from the already depleted water supply that is needed for the ranchers in the community that is was already here.
