closing the jail would be a foolish decision especially If it is to save money and keep the city/county budget( s) balanced, we may be a small city/community but we do exist. We are important. Leave our vital city functions alone and find other ways to balance the budget like stopping unnecessary and wasteful spending and wasting city/county resources and instead use them wisely

Please keep the Ridgecrest jail open so our officers don't need to drive to Mojave to book someone. Thank you.

We NEED our jail so our RPD Officers are not tied up driving back and forth between Mojave or Bakersfield if Mojave is full. Closing OUR jail takes OUR officers off OUR streets that we NEED to keep OUR City safe! At anytime if there is emergency and our Officers are busy driving back and forth then that leaves us with ZERO coverage! Think before you act! This IS something WE need locally!

This is a short-sighted "solution" to the on-going financial problems in Kern County: shifting the County's expenses to the City of Ridgecrest doesn't solve either's financial problems and decreases police presence in Ridgecrest. Very poor decision that deserves reversal.

Needs to stay open, to much riff raff. In town not enough law for transportation to Bakersfield.

The cost to the City of Ridgecrest to transport suspects and prisoners will be more than the amount the County is saving. This is just the County passing on a burden to the City. Why not take the funded positions at Lerdo and transfer them to Ridgecrest?

The jail is incredibly important! We're a small town isolated for at least 2 hours from anywhere else and crime is on the rise as of late; stabbings, theft, hit-and-runs. If this jail closes, our officers who are here to protect us will have to take offenders to different cities; this will discourage arrests and cause much more chaos. We need this jail!

Instead, abolish RPD and submit a proposal to the city of Ridgecrest to supply all law enforcement functions.

Please do NOT close the Ridgecrest's jail. It would be a terrible strain on the local police department and the city.

This budget cut makes no sense. You will have to pay for each prisoner to be transported to another facility which will cost as much or more than keeping our facility open.

Keep the jail open. Crime is already ridiculous with so many felonies now being cited as misdemeanors thanks to Prop 47. This will just leave the citizens and taxpayers left to protect themselves when law enforcement are transporting to Mojave or Bakersfield. We will remember the next time that we vote for Sheriff and Supervisor.

The closing of our jail and the option of losing our officers, on the street, to hrs driving seems as though it will cost a lot more than keeping the Jail open. Since we are having an upswing in crime it seems you are saying we are unimportant and don't deserve proper protection. Makes me wonder why Bakersfield lives matter, but not Ridgecrest lives.

Closing the Ridgecrest Jail is a huge mistake. LEO's in the east county will have to drive 2 hrs or more just to book a prisoner at CRF or Lerdo. This is a logistical and safety concern for those agencies. It will also mean more "Cite & Releases" which means the criminals will be back on the street even before the Officers/Deputies get back to their Station to do the report. It also means all the DO's in RC will have to uproot and move their homes and families to Bakersfield. That means changes for the families as well, like new schools for the kids, new jobs for the spouses, selling homes so they can buy new ones..... Bad idea all around.
