The name Walker has been around in our community for over a century. Changing the name will not cause the community of Jasper to claim the new school. People in our community and around the state will continue to refer to us as Walker High School. Changing the name will only provide confusion for everyone, as well as tarnish a community tradition over several generations.

The idea of changing our most beloved high school's name is ludicrous. Should this idea succeed I will be spending my money in other surrounding cities and counties. Cullman, Double Springs, Arley, even Decatur aren't that far away.

Why alienate any alumni? Those who want it to stay Walker have a legitimate complaint. It's history that they were a part of is suddenly seemingly gone and lost forever in the eyes of some. Some may be for it to be Jasper High, and then obviously we have those who oppose. Why change the name when it's obviously something people in this community feel strongly about and you now risk losing donations. If half of your boosters oppose the name change and only half of those said boosters stop donating, you lose 25% of your donations. Do the math, idk the numbers-don't really care, but it just seems illogical and idiotic to upset so many people who obviously care about their community and are passionate about its history. Odds are, that whoever came up with the idea either did not go to Walker, or they are trying to ensure that their name goes down in history as being the Idiot that decided to call it Jasper High School.

As a 1984 Walker High School Graduate I am against changing the high school name. Such a big decision should have had the city residents as a whole vote. This decision will not only effect future elected officials, but the students past future and present. There is nothing to gain (my opinion) by changing the name, but the future students have everything to loose; stripping them of their High School name and forcing them to except the future. We teach them respect one another, to be courteous and mindful of others feeling, to respect one another, to treat others as you would want to be treated. If the student past present and future or forced to except this change, where is the respect that I as a parent work so diligently to insteal in my children to always consider others. There many things the students have contributed to Walker High that would no longer have a place in Jasper High School because they were designed for WHS.
