Keep the name Stonewall Jackson Middle School—Stonewall Jackson is not a name anyone should be ashamed of for any reason. Where is all this to end? Do we change George Washington High School? Andrew Jackson Middle School? Ben Franklin Career Center?

LEAVE STONEWALL MIDDLE SCHOOL .... STONEWALL MIDDLE SCHOOL .... THERE ARE A LOT OF MEMORIES FOR THOSE THAT GRADUATED FROM STONEWALL HIGH SCHOOL .... DON'T TAKE THOSE MEMORIES AND FLUSH THEM DOWN THE TOILET ... JUST BECAUSE "ONE" PERSON IS OFFENDED .. THEY NEED TO REALIZE THAT THE MONEY CAN BE USED TO FUTURE EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN ... THERE ARE MORE ISSUES THAT NEEDS ATTENTION ... THAN CHANGING THE NAME OF A SCHOOL THAT IS PART OF HISTORY!!! JUST LEAVE IT BE ... WE ALL ... CITIZENS OF CHARLESTON HAVE HAD ENOUGH ... JUST STOP THE INSANITY AND BE GRATEFUL ... THAT OUR CHILDREN HAVE SCHOOLS TO GO TO AND LEARN ... THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN IN THIS WORLD THAT DO NOT HAVE THIS PRIVILEGE .. SO AGAIN BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL THAT THEY HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN. CHANGING THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL "IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE" PREJUDICE THOUGHTS AND REACTIONS OF OTHERS ... STUPIDITY IS THE CAUSE OF IT ALL ... WAKE UP AND KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF AND STOP TRYING TO BRING ATTENTION TO YOURSELF. WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK .. WHAT YOU WANT DONE .. OR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY!!

I don't believe that you would waste money doing this. Use the money to further educate the students in things that could change their lives.

Leave Stonewall and its history and name alone. There are more things to worry about in Charleston and the west side than the name of a school. The Stonewall will never fall and neither will it's memories or name. Leave it be!

Why the name change idea? Stonewall Jackson was a true son of North Central West Virginia. Bruce Jennings, SJHS Class of '59

Stonewall Jackson High School opened its doors in 1940. For 70 years this school has educated thousands of high school and junior high school students. The “stonewalls” of SJHS have continued to stand strong as with each passing decade it endeavored to educate, strengthen, enlighten, shelter, protect, defend and inspire the thousands of students schooled within those pale bricked walls.
Today in a climate of racial shaming and civil unrest we are asked to destroy our past and cleanse the school of its southern general’s name. We are asked to destroy our shameful heritage and past transgressions from sight.
Those who ask us to destroy and discard the past, mean well. However, they are misguided in their remedy for reconciliation of the past. When people cannot accept the sins and transgressions of their past and attempt to deny that past, they lie. Love and truth are our only protection to ensure that “history is never repeated”. Truth is our shield and our weapon to ensure that we remain “one nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and justice for all. To erase our history is to erase our truth.
Any attempt to rename a school, because it is named for a Civil War General is to deny our true heritage. It is the first step to burning books, photographs, toppling statues and it begins our crawl back into the darkest caves and a refusal to look upon our own reflection and heal the diseases of racism and sexism, then and now. We must be true to our past as a nation; good, bad or indifferent. We must be true to ourselves and we must be true to our school.
Can we really murder our past and change the names of our schools, towns, streets, buildings and attempt to deconstruct and disavow any knowledge of the past and neuter our mistakes as if they never happened? They happened!
We are our past; we are the change; we are the future; and we will be the past again. Surely, our grand-children will wonder at our actions to strip down and do away

Multiple reasons not to change:
1. Changing the name will not change the action of the young man in S.C.
2. The school is named after an individual from an important piece of history.
3. Many people have experienced many fond memories at this school; they look forward to their future generations continuing to do the same.
4. If we are going to start changing everything associated with our history - "as in hiding things associated- to be "politically correct" then are we really learning from history or just trying to either pretend it didn't happen or over compensate?
Leave the name of the school like it is
