Keep the Rebel's name. It's not a symbol it's just a word.

I've been a member of the Rebel family my entire life. I've worn the logo and had no problem. My cousin, Mrs. Jeanette Benson was apart of the first integration of whites and blacks at Byrnes High. She also wears the logo proud and her family follows. I've always been told "Once a Rebel, Always a Rebel" & I want my nephews and possible children to become apart of that family too. The name has never offended me and I'm an African-American Alumni of the Class of 2015. I go out of town wearing my Rebel shirts. One saying, "Born To Be An American, Proud to Be a Rebel" & the other "Rebel for a Cure." I've had many family members from out of town trying to get in our school because of our proud name that couldn't and it's a shame we have to fight to keep it. The new generation has taken all hatred out of that name. We see no color and we see no hatred. We are not our ancestors and refuse to let history repeat itself. Take our name away, you might as well take my childhood away where we spent countless hours at games like basketball, football, track, baseball, flag football, and parades shouting the Rebel name. Take away my class ring and diploma where I wear it day and night on my finger and did the Famous Rebel chant with my fellow classmates after receiving our diplomas graduation night. Take my joy away, because being a Rebel meant the world to me and made me feel special when people asked what school I went to. Being a Rebel is an extraordinary thing and is what brings our school such fame, even outside of South Carolina. This is just a touch of how I feel about my school and our name. I am a real student alumni of James F. Byrnes High, Home of the Rebels. Leave My Family Name Alone!

I went to Byrnes and graduated with honors in 2002. There's was some flag issues that year as well within the school. I never heard any students of any color/ethnicity complain about the flag or the "Rebels" name. It was only adults outside of the school. The students are very proud of that name and support it. The adults and groups like the NAACP need to leave it alone and stop making and issue out of something that's not even a problem.

I am a former James F . Byrnes Rebel student. I see in NO WAY how the word rebel is offensive to anyone. The meaning of a rebel is for anyone who stands up to "fight" for them selves or their team. This is completely out of hand. The future children of James . Byrnes have looked forward to being "Rebels".. Why take it away from them when you don't have to? Just let it be. Thank you

Why CHANGE history for a bunch of trouble makers. Why CHANGE history or names because 2 out of 2000000 are wanting to cause chaos leave Byrne's rebels alone. Grow up and show future generations that we can coexist in life and that just because your bored doesn't mean you have to disrupt lives that are no concern to you.
