My mom was the oldest of her brothers and sisters and the first in the family to graduate from Byrnes in 1958. Since then, we have had about 30 of us to go thru Byrnes, with even more little Rebels coming up after us. We are a family of Byrnes Rebels. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Even if you succeed in changing the name, we are all still going to be BYRNES REBELS! You can't rewrite history.
Rebel Athletics and The Rebel Regiment are nationally known as what? The Byrnes Rebels, from Duncan, SC!
Proud to be a BYRNES HIGH REBEL from the class of 1990!

Just like the removal of the battle flag from the state capitol building, changing this name will do nothing to eliminate racism. Instead, it will only spark anger in those who cherished them and held them as symbols of freedom and the will to stand up against oppression.

You've already removed the mascot of the the civil war solider. What else do you uneducated people want? This hasn't been a problem until now, why

This is crazy. There is no mascot that has already been taken away. It's just a name sake.

This is ridiculous! I graduated from Byrnes High School in 1996. Byrnes has already had to change things due to this same reason back in the 90's ! Why should they have to change again, because the NAACP wants to cause trouble for everyone!! Let's think about real issues! Leave our High School Alone! Changing the name will not resolve anything! Keep the Rebel Name!

Class of 1993. With 2 children graduating from here, one in 2013 and the other in 2015. Racism is in the hearts of people, not in the school's name. Taking Rebels out of the name will only fuel a very unstable situation.
