Not all rebels are racists. The word rebel is used all over the world to describe people who are willing to stand up and fight for what they believe in. The community surrounding James f. Byrnes has not used the name as a message of hate but as a message of love and support. The term "rebel pride" is more than just a phrase. It represents the outstanding drive instilled in students at James f. Byrnes. Students are taught to work together for what the believe in, and never to give up on something they truly desire. The sense of community support behind this ideal has caused it to snowball into a sense of "team spirit" that has no true rival. "rebel" is a historical name for the school, not because of the civil war, but because of the years of sweat blood and tears students, staff, families, and alumni have poured out for their school under that very name. To deny future generations access to this rare phenomenon would be a great misdeed. Lets show the world that we will not give negative power to the word by abolishing it. Lets decide instead to show everyone what it means today to have rebel pride. Rebels come in all shapes colors sizes and ages. And they fight for many reasons. Being a rebel taught me the meaning of teamwork and togetherness. And i hope it will continue to do that for many others in the years to come.

I do not believe that the Rebel name is a symbol of racism but is one of pride. Let us stand together as one to save our name while not pouring salt into open wounds but instead showing fact that we are not racist. We are proud of all our Rebels, passed, present and future.
