Keep the LINC Program at Vancouver Community College

I would like to keep attending this class

It is incredibly important to keep the LINC program going at VCC. Without this program, many newcomers to Canada will be left struggling to really find their place in Canadian society, and they will have fewer chances to find a job that will help them live in their new country and support their family. VCC has served many students through the LINC program and it does not make sense to cancel a program that has served students so well. Cancelling the VCC LINC program only creates more problems for the students who came for a new life in Vancouver.

I have had the deep privilege of facilitating learning with newcomers in our BSN nursing program over the past 15 years at VCC and many of them have accessed the LINK program. This program is unique in that these students receive wrap around supports from VCC's integrated programs and services. These wrap around supports addresses the stressful process of migration. Please consider the foundational impact this funding cut is going to have for these 800 students' lives. They are a core part of our community and this funding needs to be protected to support VCC in offering LINK services that include these wrap around supports. Protecting this funding will enable the gifts and resources that these students offer our VCC and wider community and economy.

This LINC program at VCC provides essential language and employment skills for newcomers while building strong community connections. Closing this program on so little notice leaves so many without options and support.

English classes are essential for the successful integration of newcomers to Canada. You will fail these students and our society by removing their classes without any support for finding other providers or arrangements.

Quality language education is needed for our newcomers. Learning at a college also allows learners greater access to opportunities for further study, which helps all Canadians.

This is a basic necessity! We cannot do away with this program!

VCC provides an exceptional level of eduction for newcomers. These students progress on to other college programs and employment. This is an essential program.

This is an incredibly value program, one that allows new speakers of English to have a greater sense of autonomy and dignity as they negotiate a a new environment. It is shameful that funding has been cut. As Tommy Douglas said, one can measure a society based on how it treats its most vulnerable.

Please! LINC program needs to continue in VCC. It’s an excellent resource for helping newcomers in our country. I was one of them and I’m really grateful

I'm not sure why they closed this program at VCC College because it really helps all newcomers learn English. It's really needed by people like me. This college has the best teachers and the best program.

This program is vital for the province to support newcomers in re-certifying in their specific fields and/or gaining the language and academic or vocational skills to participate fully in Canadian society.

This is a much needed program.

To Whom It May Concern, I believe the LINC program is a crucial component to VCC's educational program.

Canada has become a richer country with the help of those who have immigrated here , and VCC has been the main English language training college for new immigrants to BC for decades. It would be a mistake to dismantle the program now. Finding the resolve to make it through tough times would be a much better way to model Canadian values. Quitting when times get tough is not the solution.

This program is crucial.

LINC is much more than an English course—it’s a vital bridge for newcomers as they transition into Canadian society and workplaces. Beyond language skills, LINC provides cultural orientation, practical tools, and a supportive community that empowers immigrants to integrate and thrive. Cutting its funding would mean taking away an essential resource that helps newcomers contribute meaningfully to Canada’s economy and multicultural fabric.
