Keep the LINC Program at Vancouver Community College

The LINC Program is necessary for newcomers! Newcomers not only get the opportunity to learn, practice, and use English in the LINC Program at VCC, they get the opportunity to build themselves up again - meeting people and learning from them, forming relationships and connections, finding community and belonging, opening up their minds to learning about their new communities, and working on themselves and their skills to be able to contribute to their new communities. This cut to the LINC Program at VCC is a cut much deeper than "just a program" for newcomers.

LINC programas are so important for us to get better jobs, make friends and build our lives in Canada. It means jobs for all the teachers too.

If LINC becomes no longer available for newcomers at VCC, the negative repercussions for denying settlement and language assistance to newcomers, their families and sponsors will be severe. The government needs to follow through on promises to assist integration. Period.

This will be a huge loss for new immigrants if the program at VCC is cut. It’s a great school with a long history of English language teaching and excellent instructors.

As a newcomer, I feel it is necessary to defend this English language institute that has helped me improve my English and I express my dissatisfaction with its closure or any change in its future direction.

Please give us to second chance

As the largest provider for LINC in the lower mainland for decades, VCC is equipped to provide quality education. It's one thing to reduce funding, but to cut the program at VCC altogether is reckless on the government's part.

I don’t believe Canada is well served by cutting English language services to those who are already here.

Do not cut funding. It is needed now more than ever.

This is the wrong decision!

We need LINC!

LINC is an essential service not only help new immigrants to quickly adapt to Canada but also help Canada to smoothly absorb new comers into the labor force. Cut overstaffed government institutes instead of LINC and educational projects!!!

The LINC program is and has been such an integral part of VCC for so many years, helping students and newcomers gain English language skills and navigate career options. All of the wrap-around student supports at VCC help students feel a sense of community and find success in their educational and vocational journeys. Discontinuing the LINC programs would be detrimental to this success, taking away vital resources that help newcomers integrate, thrive and find meaningful ways to contribute to their lives, families and communities. Please help ensure the LINC program continues, supporting the growth and inclusion of all newcomers.

English programs are needed. This way new comers can pursue the dreams they have and contribute to our country.

I had to good fortune to attend the last TESOL training at VCC. The instructors who taught the program also taught newcomers. I was very impressed by their skill and kindness and committment to their students. English is essential for integration. Please reconsider the cuts and continue to fund this very valuable programming.
