This program is essential for those who try to integrate into Canadian society. There is nowhere to find that adults can learn this kind of program.

This is an important program not just to help newcomers learn the language, but also to introduce them to the local culture.

LINC provides much more than just English classes; a major component of LINC is settlement orientation for newcomers to Canada. Students in LINC classes learn English that helps them navigate everyday life in Canada and fully participate in activities such as communicating with their child’s school and volunteering.
B.C. has suffered the biggest cuts of all provinces in Canada. In justifying these cuts, the government states that B.C. has the highest cost per student. As a result, newcomers in B.C., who are already struggling with the high cost of living, are now being punished by the government for living in the most expensive province in Canada.

I taught in the LINC program for a number of years. A truly valuable resource for immigrants coming to Canada. People from other countries always applauded the foresight of the Cdn government for providing such a valuable resource! How do we expect immigrants to integrate into our country if they can’t speak the language or speak it well enough to use their skills properly?

The program is the opportunity for many new migrants to access the opportunity to have a dignified and more connected life, cutting off this program is somehow silencing and leaving more defenceless those who cannot have access to learning English in any other way.

When newcomers do not get the necessary language training for their lives in Canada; then everyone loses. Canada needs the work skills and experience that newcomers bring.
