Sea angling is a major hobby in the UK. We have lost enough pier access due to damage and lack of investment over the decades. Surely if anyone wishes to invest in a British institution they should respect the local needs - anyone not doing that will be resented and business lost.

We had the same issue in Lowestoft. Pier closed for two years but the community eventually won.

One of my earliest memories is fishing off the pier. Community facilities need to take into account the needs and wishes of all members of the community. Shared use is an important element of community cohesion.

So sad that after a big part of this lovely place gets burnt down, other attractions that outlive many are being sacrificed. Surely the name of the pier and these paces should not suffer :(

Restricting fishing on the pier will have a detrimental impact on tourism and related business in the area

Fishing is an integral part of British culture. Stop thinking about profits and think about the community.

If the local council etc is that concerned, why don't they just put a time or daylight restriction on the fishing. For example; fishing permitted only after 8pm or sunset when most of the tourist have left. Would make sense to me.
