Pier is part of the community, The new owner doesn't understand that. The removal of the fishing deck is yet another event in his back catalogue of farcical activities which have been opposed by the Eastbourne Community. Visits to Bowship or the Farm of Wartling road with their Tacky animals and inappropriate entrances proves he has more money than taste. He will ruin the pier and it will fail because he isn't in tune with the mass public.

It would be such a shame for the tackle shop to lose his business and even more of a shame to stop the fishing .

Its part of are fishing history I used to fish here as a kid , Plus the owner is a great help to the younger kids that are taking up fishing today , Keeping them off the streets and out of trouble. We need more people like this in todays age . To loose this would be a crying shame

Pier fishing is under threat but it is one of the safest environments for young anglers to learn their craft.

My family all come from Eastbourne and my Grandfather was an Eastbourne Boatman and a founder member of The Eastbourne Fishermans Club . My father worked on the sea defences and drove a crane up and down the seafront. I like many others learnt to fish on the pier at the age of 14. Now 52 years later l take my grandson to fish on there. l belong to the fishing club for which l pay a yearly fee, this money is used by Arran the owner of the club to repair the decking and maintain the staging. Arran runs fishing competitions and these are well attended and are great and some of the older members bring there grandchildren to fish them,we have several members who fish the pier that have fished for "The England fishing Team" one is a only 16 and is Martin Pain he is a shining example to the young people of today,he was taught by his father on the pier who also ishes for the team.So before you wipe out a big part of "The Eastbourne Pier " History and my and many of my friends pleasure please stop and think . And talk to us or even share our passion for our pier our town and each other.

I think closing the pier to anglers is a bad idea. Local tradition and practice when they are beneficial to the social wellbeing of people should be maintained.
