Destroying history is a sure way that people will repeat it. I sure wish I knew the true history of Columbus. One account says he was plundering, killing and raping native Americans while another says he never set foot on American soil. Regardless, my hope is that the Mayor's committee will bring the truth to light. Whatever the findings, the statue should stay as it is part of the struggle this important segment of our community went thru, to make us the great community we enjoy. Let's fix our most important problems that include education, poverty, public safety, family and TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT IN OUR LIVES.

In 1891 in New Orleans, 11 Italian Americans were lynched. This was the largest mass lynching in American history. The following year Columbus Day was created by the federal government and statues put up around America as a reminder that what happened to Italians should never happen in America again. Italians' including my family came to this country for a better life for themselves and their children. I would prefer that you leave the statue, but if it goes there should be an Italian American History month in America to celebrate our achievements in music, art, education, business, literature, theater, sports, history and culture.

Read your correct history(for example the ships log) and you will understand why not to remove this statue. In addition, it is an insult to Italian-Americans once of the most severely discriminated against groups.

History should not be removed. It should be studied and improved upon.

This is not a symbol of hate, but a symbol of hope. It is part of the history of Syracuse and belongs to the community

Please keep Columbus. Stop catering to minority numbers when the majority wants it to stay.
