The Monument was built and paid for by the Italian immigrants at that time to honor and show their appreciation for the privilege of living and prospering in America.
Dissenters do not have the right To alter or destroy our privilege or right.
If they feel they need to, have their own symbol of pride, let them build and pay for their own monument as the Italians did.

Mayor Walsh: Please find a way to keep the statue. Destruction of the statue would dishonor the hard work of the may Syracuse Italians who paid for the erection of this monument. The destruction of this statue is the beginning of a slippery slope toward destruction of other hard fought for symbols of national pride.

Symbols of the Italian heritage that have "stood" for years are as important to preserve as those of other cultures that are being recognized.

You can't change history by removing a statue! Italian Americans along with Native Americans in CNY have sacrificed and worked hard for their families and the community.

Statues were erected for Italians that were unjustly sentenced to death. This man is buried on the island for which he first landed and subsequently befriended the people and adopted one of their children. He was not a slave owner. If it were not for men like him we would not be populating the planet as God had instructed.

the post standard did a wonderful job with the history of the Christopher Columbus monument. I wonder if on Oct. 12 1934 there any Garofalo's marching down the street, like the history said ,20,000 did.
Keep the statue!
