Any actions against this greatest of explorers and discoverer of America are based on ignorance and/or racist intolerance, plain & simple!

Mayor, You should be ashamed of your unwillingness to make any meaning effort to learn the true historical facts relating to Columbus, and the strong symbolic tie he has to the Italian American community. Why would you choose to placate the demands of radical revisionists by insulting the history and contributions of the Italian American community? A true leader would find a way to honor the history of Native Americans without stamping out the history of Italian Americans.

Italians are a recognized and respected group in America. Please do not discriminate against this group in favor of another group by disrespecting its culture.

Stop erasing history. Ensure that the way the ships’ crews treated the natives doesn’t happen again.

I fully support keeping the Columbus statue intact, as is. Our country was founded upon certain past factual event. History cannot be undone or rewritten. To appease certain factions who wish to seek vengeance for possible past transgressions, the addition of a plaque to address those claims could be placed near the statue.

Columbus did great things for the world in his day by his daring and naval skills. His detractors were not there and follow blindly what is being said about him by those wishing to destroy our history and pride in his accomplishmjents.

Christopher Columbus did not discover America. Natives came from Asia thousands of years ago and the Vikings also preceded him. However Columbus initiated trade and colonization between Europe and America. Had he not ”discovered” America, others would have. But he was first and therefore he deserves the honor. When we celebrated the 500th anniversary of Columbus, there were articles discussing some of the plants that Europe obtained from the new world like tomatoes, potatoes, corn. What would European cuisine be without these crops? Colonization also started after Columbus' "discovery" and many nationalities came to America with some good and bad effects. In this sense, one can argue that celebrating Columbus is a way of celebrating our diversity. This could made more evident by surrounding the statue of Columbus with symbols of this diversity. It is beyond ridiculous to blame Columbus, with the ill treatment of Native American

The idea of removing this statue is outrageous. It's clearly based on faulty history put out either through ignorance or purposeful deception. This statue should remain where it is!
