I am a life long resident of Little Italy in the Bronx, New York. I have personally done an extensive investigation of the life of Columbus and have most of the allegations against him to be unsupported by historical fact. In fact, I have written articles for major newspapers (i.e. New York Daily News) to debunk the many baseless attacks on his legacy in the name of rewriting a politically correct history.

This drive to destroy Columbus is divisive and discriminatory and it also reveals a total lack of historical fact about Columbus .

Your Honorable Ben Walsh, there is no cogent reason to remove the Columbus Statue from your midst. It is a monument to all the brave people who brought life to our great nation. The statue is a landmark feature of every municipality. To remove it is to remove every vestige of history. It stands more for our achievement than for our detractions. Please do not remove it. Very truly yours, Frank J. Ruggieri, M.B.A., C.P.A.

The statue should not be taken down. Why change history at the time of Columbus everyone had slaves. That’s how it was, but now it’s not. slavery does not exist. We should all be united in peace and harmony.

Removing statues of Columbus tells Italian Americans that their ancestors don’t matter to America. Additionally, the same message is being given to Italian Americans ... they don’t matter!

People don’t understand that history is part of our past, you cannot interpret today the meaning of what was hundreds of years ago by today’s standards. We keep going this way, we mind as well take down the Colosseum in Rome and the Pyramids in Egypt too!

Please keep the statue as it is & keep our heritage intact. Politicians shouldn’t have a right to further there careers or fill their coffers at the expense
of traditions long set in place before them. Leave the statue where it is & belongs or we’re liable to be moving YOU along to someplace else yiu don’t want to be!!

It’s part of history and a great work of art. If we get rid of all history, we won’t have anything to remind us why we are were we are. We’ll have nothing to learn from.

Removing a monument purchased by the people says nothing except we don't have any respect for the people who worked hard to develop and purchase it. This is simply wrong.
this statue is a piece of my history, leave it up
Keep the Columbus Monument Standing
