Stop trying to re-write history. It's not fair to future generations.

These protests will pass but the history should stay with us forever.

Can’t change history. Seeing the statue teaches and reminds us and our children that we all need to get along and work to make this country a better place to live in.

Its history!

We are ruining our history monuments for the single few who just do not get it and whine about everything that makes no sense. Our history has flaws as why we learn from it. No one is perfect. Wasting Syracuse dollars too is not where the money should be going to take down a statue that has been there for years. Totally against all this cancel culture crap. Our history is how we learn and change for the better. Teach instead of cancel.

Opposition to taking down the Columbus statue in Downtown Syracuse is not limited to Italian-Americans alone, but every Central New Yorker who wants to preserve Western culture within the vast and ever changing mosaic of American life. If we follow the logic that Columbus, by discovering the Americas, was somehow responsible for later atrocities visited upon Indigenous peoples by European powers, might we make the same argument that the Jesuit Fathers who canoed down from Quebec to the shores of Onondaga Lake, paved the way for European expansion into Central New York. Moreover, that the Jesuits and those who followed in their wake, likely robbed local Indigenous peoples of their culture, religion, land, and way of life. Given this, would it be a stretch for local politicians to somehow demand that LeMoyne College be renamed, since Father LeMoyne, the school’s namesake, was party to this ‘atrocity‘? I pose this argument to illustrate the folly we are currently experiencing. I hope I haven’t started us down the road to yet another cancel culture cause. That’s not my intent. Save our heritage.

Do not erase history, culture and one's ethnic pride in building this nation, along with other ethnic groups. A statue paid for by many immigrants with little income, who struggled coming to this country, leaving all behind and being subject to other kinds of discrimination and oppression, should not continue to be oppressed, just as it is unjust with any ethnic groups. Let other groups erect statues to represent themselves and show their pride in a positive way.

Please keep Columbus where he belongs!!

It makes zero sense to remove any historic statue because some people are offended by what they think it represents to them. Others believe the statue to be a historic icon of the adventurous spirit of the men who discovered our great nation. If one ascribe to the thinking of those who want to remove the stature of Columbus we should remove the "Statue of Liberty" first as it represents a nation who has at times embraced slavery and repeatedly betrayed other peoples with broken treaties. Instead, own our past and do our best as a nation to respect all people today in action and heart.

Please keep the statue.
