The school I coach lacrosse at in Georgia has an Athletic Director AND 2 Assistant Athletic directors. The school is about the same size as MLHS. Why you would want to get rid of 1 is a crazy idea with all of the duties that need to be performed. You should adding assistants under the director, not removing the director.

What a tough and difficult position. The items this person has to juggle and problems they must fix at an instant, so our children can have a wonderful athletic experience, are enormous. DON’T DO IT!

Why is this even being considered? Are they trying to destroy MLHS? The curriculum and current staff have enough problems already (ethics complaints, budgets being scrutinized by NJ AG, subpoenas being served and outdated curriculum and textbooks) and now they want to cause more problems by doing away with the AD position? What has happened to ML?

He is a great person and a great athletic director. He makes strong bonds with the student we wouldn’t want any one else.

As a 1983 graduate, Doug Wilkins was our AD. Doug, as anyyone who was part of that school knows, had as big an impact on just about every student athlete at MLHS as he did on his football players. Depriving future student athletes of the opportunity to be mentored and guided by an AD would be just another step backwards for everyone.

An athletic program without a director is like running a ship without a captain. Our tradition of excellence in sports needs continued full-time leadership and these responsibilities cannot be spread among several staff members who already have other duties besides coaching. This is a necessary position at our high school.

I understand our current situation but I believe there are other avenues to budget reduction that would have less impact on our students high school experience than elimination of the AD as a full time position. I believe there will be too many gaps in coverage if this goes to a part time position and/or is split duties between people. The academic/athletic balance is why we chose to move to Mountain Lakes four years ago, and I just don’t want people to underestimate the value this position holds.
