My initial reason to study BSL was to enable me to communicate with a deaf friend. Under Sue’s tuition however, I have become massively enthused to learn, having returned to education for the first time since leaving school. I have also become acutely aware of the shortage of sign language skills within Shropshire. I have become passionate about pursuing further qualifications as I believe it is extremely important for the deaf community to have greater access to interpreters to help with communication in everyday situations. It is, therefore, my intention to enroll for the BSL Level 1 course which I understand has previously been offered on a part-time basis by the College and, hopefully, continue to Level 2 and beyond.

One of the best courses I have been on and brings awareness to an issue many wouldn't consider day to day. BSL needs to be taught somewhere since it isn't taught as part of a national curriculum so don't scrap it!

I am profoundly deaf with bilateral cochlear implants & speaks orally. I don't use sign language in my daily life, but when I go into the deaf sporting world (activities) I sign. I See how important sign language is to everybody. I even had to help young gentleman who was signing in an shop in the midlands few months ago. I think BSL course shouldn't be discontinue as it is important to everybody and the college itself.

Sue (current sign language lecturer) is not just a teacher, she becomes family. Telford is expanding and we need sign language. She's irreplaceable :)

Cutting all BSL from TCAT does not show the college as being diverse to students of all abilities. There should be some funding made available!

BSL is a language like any other, for some their sole language. Sign language classes provide a vital link between the hearing and deaf communities, reducing the isolation (and its potential consequences) of those with severely limited hearing.

we need to keep sign language alive. not everyone can lipread and not everyone can communicate by speaking. we need to allow everyone the opportunity to communicate in the way they choose

Completed level 101 just wish i had the funds to carry on.
To lose this course would be tragic. Would be great if everyone had even the basics of BSL and some comprehension of deaf culture.

As a parent of 2 deaf children I know how vital this course is. Everyone should have the right to communication, we can not lose this course.
