Keep Sports During 6th Period

Granada, please understand the sleep deprived lives of your students who have sports during 6th period. Making sports practice after school will lead to an unhealthy sleeping schedule. Your students are young adults who require a minimum of 8 hours of sleep for their brains and bodies to develop properly. Currently, the majority of the student body already run on less than 8 hours, but by making them stay at school for a longer period of time than necessary would just inhibit their growth mentally and physically. Your students understand that as student athletes, the student comes first. but how can the student thrive and flourish without properly reviving from the long hard days at school. Furthermore, how can they maintain their academic rigor, as in studying for the next test, reviewing class notes, finishing homework, preparing for the AP/IB tests, if they are forced to stay after school for a longer time than needed?

A few of my friends on sports teams complain and struggle about juggling homework and sports.

It's really important that students get enough time to manage everything within their day, and by adding on sports for after school, it can interfere with important things like them getting more rest and finishing their homework!

Handling sports and school is already a challenge but adding a whole other class in to the mix will be impossible. And with all of the sports practicing after school, there will be not be enough room for all of the teams (in the gyms, field, etc.)

Please read....Facts all wrong... students who participate in sports can lbe exempt from PE. Study hall will be optional and students will have options to take elective classes including PE. This all about adding options and choices for students.

Absolutely ridiculous. These kids have way too much homework to have to play sports after school. I greatly oppose this decision. When is Granada going to make sports a priority and stop punishing these kids that are athletic scholars at a high achieving school? Our athletics should be topnotch just like our academics!

I think that having the sports activities during 6th period is the best for the students rather than after school. It will be too much work for those students if it's after school.

Make it a 6 period, not after school.

It's better to have it during 5th period because student have a lot of classes so we can end practice early and then go home and study and do homework. Most people don't have time to stay after school.

I used to go to Granada and all my friends that were in sports appreciated 6th period for practice because it meant that they didn't necessarily have to cut time out of doing homework or other activities they participated in after school.

This proposed move benefits no one. Keep the current schedule as is, and provide your student/athletes with an additional hour of study time during the evening.
