This is a ridiculous and harmful idea. Please consider the amazing student athletes who will be detrimentally affected by this petition. Granada has already added zero period for athletes, don't make them practice after school. Please please consider high achieving athletes like my son Matthew Bacon. The baseball period and study hall was very important to him. He has a 4.5 GPA and a 1540 SAT. Don't forget that you have high academic students in sports. They bring a lot of attention to your school though you only focus on Academic decathalon. Please don't neglect your athletes and end up punishing them because you don't understand the importance of competition. Regards, Lisa Bacon Harvard 1990 7 varsity letter athlete 818.324.2599 cell

YOUR SPORTS TEAMS HAVE A RICH AND IMPORTANT TRADITION AT GHCHS. THESE TEAM DEVELOP SCHOLAR ATHLETES AND PREPARE PEOPLE FOR LIFE AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. SHAME ON THE BOARD OF THE SCHOOL FOR EVEN CONSIDERING THIS.

Kids that are on athletic teams at school have to Maintain a certain GPA. The athletes have to work hard scholastically as well as athletically. These kids are working hard in the classroom and then come home and work hard to complete their homework. It is important that there sixth period Is committed to their school sport. By reducing their field time will only hinder them to achieve the skills they need to be the most competitive. We expect them to do the best they can in their schoolwork To have the same expectation of them on the field means they need to be able to put the time and effort in. This allows training, technique, and safety of mind and body. "Leave sixth period for sports "

This should not be at Granada because it is very inconvenient for all of the students that take sports. Many students already take honors or ap classes and they'll have less time to do their work. This can cause stress and lack of sleep. Overall adding this to Granada will negatively effect students.

The dance team needs a class period. We use our time in class to choreograph and clean dances, and without that class time we would not be prepared to perform at any Granada games, much less compete at competitions. Not to mention, several of our team members have large after school commitments, and are already busy enough as it is. Moving all practices to after school will not alow most of the dancers (and other sports players) to be on a team and keep up with extracurricular activities. The sports teams at Granada will take a serious hit if our class periods are removed.
